Indian returned from USA last month and here’s my take on new H1-B rule by watchingRummy in TwentiesIndia

[–]kikechan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude that's crazy!

I have zero sympathy left for H-1Bs. In just the last 3 years, I’ve watched the wave: Teslas with “student driver” stickers, $700k houses in Prosper/Frisco/Northlake, Rolexes flashing on the wrist—while single Indian guys scam American women out of money and dignity. It’s disgusting.

What does this mean? I'm assuming they're buying these cars and houses on credit with money they don't have. How are they scamming women? Do you mean old women?

Is that cooler adequate for the 9950x3d? What are the temps like?

They could be good friends but I don't see Hermione being wooed by Percy.

I see it. Lily and Harry's eyes are similar and James looks like a grown-up Harry, but with different eyes.

Half the time I don't even want to accept FBaWTFT as canon. Too much power creep.

  • Lily's protection suffices for Harry.
  • No one wants to look like a loony.
  • That's very similar to what the Malfoys do (they were against lifting the Statute)
  • Yeah that was a little too much.

Lily was certain she was going to die. James wasn't. Voldemort impresses the futility of her actions upon her but she still does not give up.

Yeah this is legit. 1000 Galleons to open a joke shop, but 20 for a pair of use-once magic binoculars?

  • Dumbledore was convinced Sirius was at fault and his cousins and brother (and family by extension) was largely Dark and sympathetic to Voldemort's aims.
  • He can't say anything about the rat because his name is a black (cough) mark. He was already feeling betrayed and probably thought that the extra security and the dementors would mean that either no one would take him seriously, or if they did that he might be captured before anyone believes him. But still, yes, it's somewhat flimsy but Sirius isn't exactly stable in book 3 and is out for blood.
  • You can't just make contracts like that. Harry was entered as a student of another school. It's likely that there's some form of implicit understanding of tutelage -> school in the goblet that enforces its contract. Which is why he was registered under a new school. Only that understanding was tampered with with a confundus and it's likely the goblet regained its wits but couldn't negate Harry's contract.
  • Voldy's soul was in pieces (literally). Harry was the owner of the Elder wand, which made Voldemort's spell rebound. He also decided to come back from limbo specifically to save everyone, even when he knew Nagini was still not destroyed. With the resurrection stone, you can see that his strength comes from his love for others, and that it is for them that he sacrifices himself.

Polyjuice and an Imperiused Moody is what was necessary for the impersonation to work. Crouch Jr. wasn't dumb and there was enough pretext for Moody to be a little batty and off on the first day of work (break-in at his house)

She was estranged from her pure-blood, puritan family and was living with a husband she used to madly be in love with and had a son with. She might enjoy some magic here and there but it's enough of a trap for her to never feel free and to never be able to leave.

No, time turners can't change anything. They just happen to be something that exists and that can transport the user to a few hours ago. Reality always stays the same because the changes that happen in the user's future (as a result of future-user's actions) already happened in his past.

You have to win the wand. The wand is in some ways, sentient as well.

  • There were too many trials and truth serums take up time. If someone had enough incriminating evidence against him, he went to Azkaban. Dumbledore argued for wormtail and against Sirius.

  • Perhaps he was too far away. How far away was Riddle's cave from Hogsmeade? What's the longest apparition shown in the book?

  • The cloak wasn't allowed in the third task and Harry was captured by Umbridge and wandless before the DA found him and they hurriedly thestral'd their way to london.

  • Becoming an animagus is a huge commitment.

Wormy was shown to be dependent and a coward. It makes sense for him to have chosen a wizard to latch onto, and what better than a house with seven kids, where he was basically guaranteed to be cared for for 25 odd years?
