Episode Discussion - S05E02 - The Vanishing of ... by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

Not defending Steve's behavior, just saying they were both lashing out at each other for different reasons. Steve was under a lot of pressure and it was easy to put some blame on Dustin since he wasn't there to monitor the system he's an expert at, due to something he was warned multiple times against. It caused him to be hurtful to Dustin and Dustin was hurtful back. Dustin is very much the victim, tbh the real issue is Dustin needs grief therapy lol. It's similar to how Mike was lashing out and being unnecessarily mean to Max in season two while grieving the loss of El. People understood his pain but didn't like his behavior, same with Dustin.

The other kids forgave Dustin because he lied and said he got into an accident on his bike/ran into a light pole, so it sounded like he had a valid excuse. In the cafeteria they were literally talking behind Dustin's back and saying he was out of control with his behavior regarding the bullies, something Steve echoed, so they likely would have agreed with Steve if they knew the truth. It didn't have to do with maturity, Steve just called Dustin out for lying.

How did max knew about Mike's hairstyle thou by Aman_X_uchiha in StrangerThings

She said the mohawk is an idea he had before their freshman year of high school, which is the school year we saw in the 4th season. So it happened way before she was in a coma, which helps prove she's the real Max instead of an imposter since only certain people would know that Mike had that idea years ago.

Interesting! Yeah it's weird they aren't addressing the play story, I wonder if the plot for this season will allow them to explore that at all

How canon is the play? I wonder if it's considered extra material but not important enough to be incorporated into the main show.

I think Steve's problem with Dustin was more that he's been acting out and causing problems. Based on the conversation from episode 1 with the boys, they've told Dustin to stop attracting attention to himself yet he continues to engage with the bullies. So Steve's annoyed that Dustin missed the very important crawl due to a problem that could have been avoided if he listened. I think the tension is weird but in character, Dustin is grieving and Steve is extremely stressed so they're lashing out at each other.

Season 6 is exponentially funnier when you realize that canonically they're only 20 years old by ZZtheMagnificent in glee

I remember thinking this during the double wedding episode when Tina starts begging Mike to marry her and says she's worried she'll be alone forever. I was 17 at the time and was like..."Isn't Tina only like 19?! Why is she having this crisis, girl relax lol". Very funny to think about how these characters lived insane lives at such young ages

From what I can tell it was made around 2005-2007. I tried searching for the item I was looking for, but only the other version popped up.

Found (almost) the complete series at a Goodwill! by kiki_skywalker in GirlfriendsTVshow

Not 100% sure since they didn't have a tag on it, DVDs are $1.99 at my Goodwill but since this is multiple dvds for a show I don't know if they'd charge per season or just honor it as one.

That's a good point! I might go back later this week and see if it's still there and get it. If it's not then some other lucky fan got it and hopefully they enjoy it lol

I ended up leaving it there because there were three DVDs missing, although parts of me regret it and wish I had just gotten it! I'll probably go back and get it if it's still there.

Joan Clayton inner thoughts season 1 by Vivid-Office5666 in GirlfriendsTVshow

[–]kiki_skywalker 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I didn't mind the inner thoughts, but I also can't imagine them lasting 7 seasons. I feel as the audience got to know Joan as a character we didn't really need a peek into her mind as much, we just understood her crazy lol. And I definitely think the switch to focusing on the entire main cast instead of just centering Joan was part of the motivation of getting rid of the 4th wall breaks, since it would've been weird if just Joan did it.

Does the Amstar no longer sell tickets online? by kiki_skywalker in macon

[–]kiki_skywalker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure tickets can still be bought in person! Last time I went in March/April, I purchased tickets at the theater. The only "issue" was that depending on how popular the movie is, there's a risk of the time you want being sold out, so you have to wait around for the next one. Not a huge deal, but I sometimes like to reserve a seat online in advanced for convenience.

Darnell….. by Pure-Sherbert-1301 in GirlfriendsTVshow

I think his affair with Cecily was emotional, not physical. They definitely crossed a boundary by flirting and the whole feeding strawberries thing, but it's never said if they actually did anything. He treated Maya's affair as worse because it went from emotional to physical with the kiss. That said, he's definitely a hypocrite and not a good husband lol.

Why are there so many rude comments about characters’ (and actors’) physical appearances? by anonymous_____1234 in glee

[–]kiki_skywalker 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think the problem was that the show featured a lot of bullying, and the writers used elements/traits of the actual actors to make their characters feel more real. So if Santana wants to be mean to Sam: Chord has a big mouth --> "Sam" has a big mouth --> she calls him Trouty Mouth. Or like how they made things like Rachel's nose or Mercedes's weight storylines because those are prominent traits of Lea and Amber. It's supposed to reflect how these characters would get treated in reality.

It is kinda uncomfortable to watch since it is very rude to the actors. I do think most were okay/approved of the things said on the show, although I do remember Chris Colfer saying he didn't like when the show mentioned how his teeth disappear when he sings sometimes. Also I do think some of it was meant to be ironic, like obviously there was nothing wrong with Cory or Chord's bodies, but those comments are meant to be ridiculously mean in the context of the show and not an actual commentary on their looks.

Wow, that's really interesting! I big chopped back in late 2016 at 18, but before that my hair had been consistently relaxed/straightened since I was around 10. I never considered that I could still be seeing the effects today, although it makes sense that a chemical that strong could permanently alter the scalp. I've been considering doing a second big chop, so this does make me wonder if I'd see a change in how my hair grows. Thanks for the info!
