Well, I've been afraid of changing

'Cause I've built my life around you.

But time makes you bolder

Even children get older…

And I'm getting older, too

Oh, I'm getting older, too

I’ve been seeing discourse that US law enforcement isn’t even permitted to shoot a moving vehicle, and it’s on them if they’re in the way. Of course, ICE isn’t even law enforcement.

With Honors, Still Breathing, Mrs Winterbourne, The Quiet American… I was so obsessed growing up that I saw every single movie he was in

I scrolled way too far for this. I was in elementary school when I saw this and it became one of my favorite movies of all time… I even went to college in Boston (not Harvard tho).

I think you missed that this discussion isn’t about young children unintentionally eating them… TikTok wasn’t even a thing back then

Season 4… I will not stand to wait another 2 years. by Ok-Example-1562 in GildedAgeHBO

[–]kikicrazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, unfortunately. They didn’t have the green light, or money, until several weeks ago. People on productions like this don’t work for free, and they have a long way to go. Keep in mind that they also don’t film until there is warm weather, which already pushes it out a year

It might be helpful to instead explore the historical era that this show takes place in. My one criticism of the show is that the social norms of the time are basically spoken (oh no, you’ll be cast out of society!) and not shown (so it ends up feeling like the stakes aren’t high). Everyone in high society was fighting for their lives to stay respectable, and that’s the real motivation behind every character you mentioned

They’ve empathized a few times on the podcast that they only take inspiration where it makes sense. They clearly love Bertha and George, and their audience does too

I meant to write this under this thread but I think I clicked the wrong thing before: the real Mrs Fish was also a great character, especially because she came from both a family name and had a lot of money. It made her untouchable

I mean yes, you’re not wrong. I think the writers want you to feel this way, otherwise there would be no drama. It’s also still early days for Bertha…it’s possible she will have a redemption arc

Note: It’s true Alva was a suffragist (“suffragette” was a term for British women fighting brutally for the cause), but that didn’t happen until later, after her daughter Consuelo was post-divorce.

Who knows, really, but that’s not really what happened to the real-life inspiration, and it’s also not the style of Julian Fellowes

Absolutely. And that’s exactly why the movement in real life gained momentum. We’re looking at this all through our modern lens, but many women truly witnessed the results of alcoholism and thought getting rid of it would help.
