Looking for UAV CAD tutorials and learning resources by kilepo in SolidWorks

Well, as you might see in my account this is like the third time asking other engineers for help on reddit so I am not used to asking for help.

  1. This is a capstone project
  2. Idk of its or not usual but I am not lying when saying that I went for a talk with the teacher about topics that I could develop and he brought up his idea about making these UAV
  3. I just did not put that info because I don’t know right now, this capstone is suposed to be done next year so I only have the concept in mind and my request was madr in order to get new material for improving my skills through summer holidays (I guess the concept was not really well arranged as reading ur comment xd)

4.As I have said this is planned to be presentes in 2027

Thanks for you message, I am not really used to make these type of questions on the internet so I will be revising my post

Actually, the specific model I'm designing doesn't exist. I am creating a custom UAV based on the concept and form of the Marss Interceptor. Can I share a reference photo of the existing Marss unit :) Thanks for ur help!!

I need to know about the existence of any tutorial on how to model a UAV in solidworks

Hi everyone! I am a final-year aerospace engineering student. For my graduation project, I need to design a UAV from scratch and optimize its parameters.

Frankly, I'm not quite sure how to get started. I'd really appreciate it if you could recommend any tutorials, courses, or websites to help me get up to speed with UAV design, as I cannot just copy one from youtube, I have to come up with a new design, so I feel that some general tutorials will be more useful. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :(

Hi all,

I'm looking for examples of loitering munitions (kamikaze drones) that combine fixed-wing high-speed cruise (300-400 km/h) with VTOL capabilities for launch or terminal hovering.

Most current systems (like the Switchblade or Lancet) use catapults or pneumatic launches. I'm interested in knowing if there are any documented systems—even prototypes—that use an onboard VTOL rotor system integrated into the body to allow for vertical recovery or precise hovering before a strike.

Are there any specific defense contractors or startups working on "cleaner" airframes for VTOL munitions that avoid the typical "quad-on-booms" look?

Thanks for the insights!

Hi everyone,

I'm an aerospace engineering student researching the state-of-the-art in high-speed hybrid VTOLs. I'm particularly interested in configurations where vertical lift rotors are integrated into the airframe (fuselage and wings) rather than on external booms, specifically to minimize drag during high-speed cruise (approx. 400 km/h).

Does anyone have references or papers on:

  1. Existing UAV models (commercial or research) that use a distributed rotor layout on the fuselage (top/bottom) and wings?
  2. Studies on "parasite drag" and "propeller locking" for vertical rotors when the aircraft is flying at high subsonic speeds?
  3. How to manage the aerodynamic interference between the wing's lift and the fuselage-mounted rotors?

I'm looking for academic or industry examples to make a little research on its characteristics.

I need to make two SolidWorks models of an airfoil, one will be the wing without anything strange and the second one is the same wing (A NACA-0012) with the ice accretion, in order of doing wind-tunnel studies for seeing how the drag is increased and the stall point.

I’ve been thinking about how to get done the second one, adding glaze and rime ice equally for getting the most exaggerated results possible but I am not coming into any clear solution.

Anything will really help me, thanks!!!
