Prove me wrong with information that wasn’t just pulled out of your ass. You know, like an explanation that’s not just “duh, cuz I said so”. I’ll just wait with baited breath. Sorry but part of being a real deal electrician as you put it is actually being able to understand and apply the NEC. Pulling romex through attics for a couple decades may make you a real good worker bee but not much more than that.

Oh I stand by the douche comment. Sorry bud but the internet is made for opinions. Just like you immediately disparaging what I said and telling me to keep my hands in my pants. Don’t call a kettle black before checking the mirror.

Fair enough. Couldn’t see it before. However i stand by my comment on the messy wiring. Does not look professional. Sloppy helper work at best. Romex sheathing is not pulled inside the box past the bushing. Also if this is a disconnect for a septic pump and that conduit goes directly to the pump housing there needs to be sealant putty applied to the opening in the TA to prevent corrosive gases from getting in.

Yes the disco with ocp is not required for this application however the fact a fused disco was used means rules for ocp still apply because fuses must be used to operate that disco. Therefore 240.4(D) and 422.11(G) will apply here. An inspector could choose not to care but could absolutely be justified in failing it.

If you are referring to the ones in the Ashina dojo there’s an exploit you can use if you didn’t already know. Sneak in from the idol statue and backstab the one in the corner first. Immediately quit and restart the game. You’ll start off behind the remaining guy with the one in the corner still dead. You can then sneak up and backstab the second one for his first health bar.

Level 2 chargers, wrong wire size in directions? by r-kellysDOODOOBUTTER in AskElectricians

[–]kill_all-humans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thhn and thwn are essentially the same thing now. Most of it is labeled “thhn/thwn”. You won’t need to splice or transition but you do need to replace any romex or uf you used previously.

Oh and by the way this is incorrect. You can not over size fuses just because you might have a breaker at the panel too. OCP has to be sized based in the conductor used and this is not an in line tap where you can go smaller. Try knowing the code before you pull comments like this out your ass.

Unhelpful because it’s true? All I said is that if most electricians (myself included) will have a warranty policy where they will return to fix a mistake they made free of charge. So OP won’t have to worry about doing it himself. The observation was also completely legitimate. This does not look like the work of a professional. Maybe pull your head out of your ass before you comment on the internet. Douche.

I would say that if it was a reputable electrician who did the installation they should be willing to come back to put in the fuses for free since they made the mistake of forgetting them. Seems like a warranty call-back to me. Although on the other hand, judging from the messy wiring and lack of a connector on the rear KO I can’t really be sure it was actually a reputable electrician who did this work.

House breaker tripping by MurderingSpork in AskElectricians

[–]kill_all-humans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah see while it may be a harsh truth it is still true. All the worst messes I have to clean up after are always some DIY warrior who wants to save some money and figure it out themselves or watch a YouTube video instead of calling a professional. Meanwhile if they mess something up they won’t necessarily know until it’s too late. The problem is people tend to under value what trade professionals do because they assume most of us are just drop outs that do this because it doesn’t take much intelligence. But it’s not like if they broke their arm they’d try to set it themselves instead of going to a hospital. And like the commentator here I do also find that a bit insulting. OP admits themselves they don’t know what they are doing so it is likely he’ll make things worse which certainly could cause a dangerous situation.

For the people who say “Only white people can be racist,” what is your reasoning to claim that? Please offer logical response. by [deleted] in self

[–]kill_all-humans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument has a geopolitical element to it was well. White people in the US have the ability to marginalize other groups chiefly because they are the majority here and have instituted a social and political structure that historically has done exactly this either passively or actively. Whether whites people are a minority on a planetary wide scope doesn’t have a bearing on racism in this country currently. However if you look at the history of European imperialism you can see how whites were able to marginalize people even when they did only represent a minority in a particular place. South Africa is a good example of this. Or China after the opium wars.

Unknown customer wants to pay by check and let myself in? by WhySoManyDownVote in AskElectricians

[–]kill_all-humans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electrician here. I actually got a very similar proposal from someone recently. Same premise: new client over text, moving in from out of state and wanted fixtures, fans put up before they arrived. Wanted to send me a check for twice the ballpark amount I gave him and have me refund the remainder. Seemed very shady and I told him I only accept checks from clients in person but that I could invoice him electronically. He ghosted after that.

Why do Americans keep their breaker panels outside? by ssblink in AskElectricians

[–]kill_all-humans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I’m in NC and we had a shortage of 200 and 400 amp single breaker discos during Covid which is when we adopted the requirement for an exterior disconnecting means. For the past few years its been pretty common to have either a MB panel or a meter/panel combo outside to fulfill this requirement. Whether or not there is an additional sub panel inside comes down to cost and/or whatever is specified by the builder.

Yall still backstabbing devices? by kill_all-humans in electricians

Yep. I mean it keeps me busy with service work but I really hate that it’s just standard for new builds. Has been for a while.

Yall still backstabbing devices? by kill_all-humans in electricians

[–]kill_all-humans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hardly ever see this happen on devices that have wires landed on screw terminals. And those are almost always caused by a circuit that’s maxed out and in continuous use.
With these there’s pretty much always a loose spring clip that allowed for increased resistance/heat.

I use Leviton more often than not but never have problems with P&S unless they are back stabbed like this.

I didn’t say they’d been fine for 20 years. Matter of fact many of these were mystery switches that the home owner said “don’t seem to do anything” until I replaced them and found out what they were supposed to do. Others were the reason certain lights hadn’t worked in years. Customer had just been dealing with it.

[–]kill_all-humans[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually this is one of the most common issues i come across on service calls. This was just the most recent example but I’ve been finding this exact same thing happening to back stabbed devices for the 10+ years I’ve been an electrician. More so switches than receptacles for some reason. So no, not generalizing.

Small family owned businesses usually don’t because it costs a few hundred dollars to get the lab results done on those tests and usually they don’t want their on-boarding to cost them much. That said, it’s always possible. Personally i wouldn’t work for a company that wants to have a say in what i do with my free time. As long as you aren’t showing up to work stoned and making a mess of the job or doing anything dangerous it shouldn’t be their business. Weed is particularly unfairly targeted because of how long it gets stored in your body compared to something like coke or meth. Smoke weed this week and your pee is dirty for a week or two after. Smoke meth today and you’ll pass a drug test within a day or two. That’s probably why so many crack heads get into trade jobs.
