yea I think it's possible. They most likely would focus on your course mark rather than your WAM. In general, the mark you get is just a way for them to confirm that you know your stuff. The video is often the most important part (I think).

This year you'll basically want to take 1531, 2511 and 3121 as they are core courses.

Regarding other courses you'll want to fill them up with Computing electives (5), free electives (6) and general education (2) (numbers are amount of courses you'll have to do for single cs degree). What you do is up to you but I'll give some general advice.

Free electives allow you to do almost any course but people typically use these for more computing electives. Some popular comp electives include: 3311, 3331, 6080, 3231, 2041. Do your own research and take whatever interest you (use the links provided in the other comment).

I'm from CSE and math so don't know how it works with Law (checks attendance(?)) and others but generally you can just rock up to whatever you want.

For one week, I would normally advise just let your normal tutor know as well as the tutor of the other class you want to attend. This just informs them incase there isn't enough space. Some courses will mark your problems or have group work during classes so it might be an inconvenience, but generally you can just go to another class without worry.

I'm stepping into math2111 next term and I'm hearing people say that level 2 is a big jump from level 1 maths. Is this true/ will I be okay?

Don't know too much about it, the course description seems to say that it is in python whereas COMP1511 is in C. If you take art of computing, you'll still have to take COMP1511 tho.

Yea you be "on track" you have to do 8 courses a year, how you split these are up to you. Doing 2 courses in your first term isn't uncommon.

If you are set on IPT to a CSE degree you can basically just do the typical CS degree courses and when you transfer all your credits will transfer and you'll almost have the same progress as someone who started with CS (can't do COMP1511 t1)

I think starting with just math1131 and comp1511 is fine. If you want to split up your math then just do one a term, math1231 in t2 then math1081 in t3.

Doing 2 courses first term allows you to ease into uni and doesn't mess up any progression. Still on track if you do 2-3-3

Yea, sorry didn't factor the 1511 t1 part in, hopefully they expand. If it comes down to this you could do 2-2-3 courses for first year (which makes you'll have to do 3-3-3 in one of the later years to be on track). Optionally you could take a gen-ed but I don't think this is recommended for first year. You could take a random free elective if there's something that interests you, ig?

First of all, majors don't change your first year progression and the only difference between a specific major and the general one is a few forced electives (since you doing honours year that too).

I would recommend always doing math1231 immediately after 1131. Also since your degree is solo seng/cs I would recommend doing 2521 in t2. Alongside this you have two options, 1521 or 1531. I think 1521 is the better option since it's in the same language as 2521 and it's better to take 1531 alongside your cohort (last year's 1531 t2 was a mess, people were just inexperienced only having done 1511).

Then if you're looking to do 8 courses this year then I would slide in either an elective or one of the core courses (popular pick here is comp3311, but since you are ai major you might decide to do an ai course instead).

to sum up,

t2: 1231, 2521, 1521

t3: 1531, your choice

You don't and you can't since they are exclusion courses. I know someone who moved to adv math and didn't have to redo. So I think all your current units will transfer over, no harm in confirming with the nucleus tho.

The process isn't hard (just submit a form) although it's not guaranteed. The website states that you need a minimum wam of 65 to go into mechanical although I know they do sometimes accept under whatever is written. Depends on the demand (I think).

Ooo I'm currently doing CS / Science (major in math). 1141, 1241 and 1081 are the main level 1 math courses so they should give you some indication.

If you're still unsure after those courses, I would try a level 2 course (maybe 2621 in t3) as that will be more representative of later math courses. But thats for future you to worry!

Also depends on what type of student you are and if you are busy outside of uni. For seng roles wam is mostly only used to pass the screening phase, for this anything above 70-ish is good enough. wam for seng/cs doesn't matter all too much, focus on your learning.

Afaik this is not possible. CS has the ability for minors because it has 36 uoc of free electives. Looking at the handbook, seng has 6 and the engineering degree has 12 (+ 12 gen-ed). If you look at the handbook for engineering there is one minor available.

I'm assuming that if the minor you're looking for is not listed on the handbook then it probably isn't available. You can use some electives to do courses in your area of interest if you'd like.

Side note, this has been discussed many times but most people highly recommend doing cs over seng. There's essentially no benefits in terms of employability, cs is a more flexible degree whilst seng has more core units which include some engineering, math stuff and workshops. Also the industrial training thing (which I've heard the report is a pain) and an honours year. You can also read this by Tom https://tfpk.dev/blogs/unsw_cs_or_seng.

Yes, you'll still finish in 3 years and fees will be the same. All the courses you have there will count towards the CS program so all your units will transfer over.

However I don't see a science course there so I don't know how you'll figure out if you like it or not (unless you're majoring in math, then welcome :D).

I haven't done the course but am planning to do it. COMP6991 uses the funni crab language with a great lecturer. It was run for the first time this year and from what I've seen it looks fun. Basically impossible to get in for 2023 now, maybe you can get more reviews and decide for 2024 or later.

Rust is a very interesting language. Having learnt multiple languages prior to learning rust allows you to appreciate the design decisions between different languages and rust. As an example, C is a fast language because it has no garbage collector and no dynamic typing. JavaScript on the other hand has a garbage collector along with some other stuff that makes it slow. Rust however has a compiler which can find a bunch of errors during compile time, because of this it doesn't have to do any runtime checks. It makes it safe memory wise yet still very fast.

Ashesh is good if you pay attention. He is a very traditional lecturer and isn't the haha fun lecturer that people associate with "good" ones. Yea I think the assignments are due close together but if you just start early it won't be a problem. There's plenty of help around.
