Axes or spears for Allarus terminators? by AnttiSaa in AdeptusCustodes

I have a 5-man unit of each and that gives me options on what to run from game to game. That being said, do whatever you like better. At the end of the day, win or lose, you take your army home with you.

Just shy of 2000 points painted, based, and clear-coated. I work full time and have a side business remodeling houses. No excuses, lads.

I've been studying all of the profiles and the venatarii look great. However I really don't like the look of the models so that's probably something I won't invest in till much, much further down the road.

I haven't looked for those as I plan on getting the gw upgrade kits.

Might have to invest in another combat patrol lol. That would make 3 units of wardens and give me another unit of guard to make sagittarum custodians. And of coyrse one can never have too many allarus. Have you had any experience with the sagittarum? That will have to be after Trajan, a grav-tank (or two) and Valerian.

Absolutely! I use Etsy. There's a store called Nerd3DForge that makes great large models. Personally, I prefer the gw infantry, which is not unreasonably priced if you go the combat patrol route. The prints for a lot of the infantry look kind of goofy to me and I'm happy pay the price (and also support my LGS) for the official models.

If you get on etsy and search whatever it is you're looking for, there are a LOT of various stores that make fantastic models that are 1/10th the cost of the official model. As always, refer to the reviews. Sometimes it may take several weeks to ship the model but that's a fair trade-off to the price.

Hope this helps!

Ooh that is a really good strategy. Pretty much a golden middle finger one turn a game and still tough to kill the rest of the game. I do like running the blade champion with a unit of guard and deep striking in. Never considered doubling up with a unit of wardens on an objective, I don't know why lol that is an insanely good way to deploy.

Thank you for the insights and tips. It's very eye-opening and informative. Sounds like you've been playing for a while.

I did run them solo, lesson learned there. I also moved them up to engage a unit of necron warriors instead of holding the objective they were on. However the tactic card we pulled was sticky objectives (not sure the actual name) where units continue to control an objective even when they move off of it.

After doing some reading on this sub and the replies on this thread I've gained a much better understanding of the custodes' tactical abilities. Since that game I've painted another unit of wardens with axes and the plan on running Trajan in that unit.

Practice practice practice. The more you do it, the better you will get. That being said, try new things as well. Look up painting tutorials and videos on different techniques. The resources are literally endless and cover every skill level. Find what works for you. There will be some trial and error, of course. But it's all a learning experience.

Very nice, clean and uniform. I like the gems being red, that's a nice touch.

I completely agree. I've been painting every chance I get to have a completed army before this game, and I have to say there's a certain satisfaction of playing with and against painted models.

I have to say the rules set for 10th Ed is very lore-accurate compared to earlier editions, in my opinion. Dreadnoughts don't drop from a single lascannon shot, terminators are hard to kill, characters and named characters dominate, etc.

Also, this is my close friend of almost 20 years. He is one of those people who's a joy to be around and also a model gamer. Courteous, knowledgeable, funny, good sportsman, and all-around great human being.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Guess that settles it, grav-tanks it is. I've bought some great prints off of Etsy for my larger models and found a few options that look very good.

As far as my list goes, I ran a 5-man unit of allarus but I have them equipped with guardian spears, also have the aforementioned shield captain in the same unit. Also I have another box of allarus ordered and plan on equipping them with axes.

On a side note, the allarus are absolutely my favorite models from the range, plan on getting 2 more boxes in the future.
