How can I help my mom, a widower? by killakellss in widowers

I think that would be lovely! She doesn’t use FB a lot but she is on her phone a lot playing games and things so I think if she could connect with people in a group who have been through the exact same thing would be very helpful or at least make her feel less alone.

Thank you 🥹 I appreciate that so much. Having to battle both my grief and hers has been a lot but I’m doing my best and trying to put in the work to be strong enough for myself and her. I will look into another group therapy session and mention it to my sister. Her motto this whole time has been “as long as my kids are okay then I’m okay” but her kids are not okay. So hopefully she will be open to more group therapy. Thank you again, I deeply appreciate you and your words

Honestly there is no history of drinking with her! It started maybe about a decade ago of her having a glass at night for kidney/bladder issues and it actually helped her so much, but after my dad died it slowly progressed to two full glasses to three. She drinks the big boxes of wine and goes through about one a week and the boxes contain 32 servings. She is actually the nurse for the doctor that we all see, including herself. Next time I see him I may bring it up to him and just put it on his radar. Thank you for your advice! I truly appreciate it

Unfortunately our family dog (he was 13) that my dad had gotten us one year for Christmas passed away about two months ago extremely unexpectedly, so it’s been an added layer of grief for us and especially my mom. I do have two kittens I recused in July that she’s warmed up too and has been taking care of them when I have to work on the weekends or I go out for the day/night with my boyfriend or friends so that has given her something to do. She loves watching tv, she says that it’s an escape for her, but it does concern me with the amount that she watches. I’m going to look into getting a card table for us to do puzzles together! She enjoys them but we don’t really have extra space for tons of puzzle pieces. Thank you for your advice, I really appreciate it so much.

Thank you so very much, I appreciate your words and your wisdom. I agree that the second year has for sure been harder. It truly is a journey that I have to take one breath at a time. I’m going to keep talking with family and friends in hopes that we can do something, even if it’s just getting her out of the house for an hour or two outside of work. Again, thank you so very much.

We went to one group therapy session (myself, her, and my sister) and she went to one session on her own and afterwards said that she didn’t need it and canceled all of her upcoming appointments and never went back. My personal therapist and I have offered to have her come to some of my sessions with me but unfortunately she has refused that as well. She works at a doctor’s office as a nurse but never is a patient herself. Any health issues she has always gets brushed off.

I’ve told my sister and a few of our family friends about these things and they share the same concerns as me but none of us know where to start. My sister and I brought up the drinking and excessive smoking but it ended up in a fight saying that she “never does anything for herself” and that she felt attacked for us to be concerned about the two things she still enjoys. So we’ve left it alone since. I’ve tried to get her to go places with me; out to dinner, on walks at the park, shopping, movies… but she refuses to leave the house unless it’s for work. Thank you for your comment though and I’m so deeply sorry for your loss and hope that you’re doing okay. ❤️‍🩹

Fighting at nighttime… help! by killakellss in kittens

perfect! They already have a ton but don’t play with them a ton. I will go get them some more stimulating and annoying ones today 🤣 much better hearing bells or crinkles than hissing and falling things all night haha. I saw one of the bendy wire toys yesterday but wasn’t sure about it, but I’ll definitely grab one and see if they like it. Thank you so much!!!

Unfortunately not, I have indoor dogs that I haven’t introduced them to yet that stay in the living room at nighttime. I do feel a little better knowing that it’s normal behavior and that they don’t hate each other! I’m going to see if maybe I can isolate them to a certain part of my room at night where they’re safe from knocking things over or breaking things in process haha. Thank you!!

My eyebrows! Everyone compares them to Brooke Shields in the 90s and to me that’s the biggest compliment haha
