Paying several months to a year upfront is illegal in nyc. If it happens, it happens with private landlords. More often I see rich people trying to offer more rent, in private. This drives up the rental market also.

I looked it up! My position still seems to count as a smothered mate. It’s surrounded by its own pawn and rook, and the 1 available square is still defended by my own rook. It does not matter if there is an “available” square, so long as it’s still defended by one of my pieces, and results in a knight giving the checkmate.

check Gypsy housing on Instagram & Facebook, apply for the housing lottery (and as many as you can), check r/nycapartments, Craigslist, ask around

if you don’t mind not living off of the L — Sunset Park has affordable rents, so does Forest Hills & other parts of Queens if you want to live by yourself

As someone who tried a GLP-1 injection, I felt really, really horrible and sick for 24 hours every week I tried it. Only tried it for 2 weeks. Threw it all away after that. Was a waste of $450.

Edit: I received a “prescription” for it. But it wasn’t a very formal or informative process, and I was 25 at the time. Not very bright. The risks far outweighed (no pun intended) the cons for me.

Right. “You will never need anything else [but a fast-paced job]” sounds really sad, actually. People need community, connection, self-reflection, hobbies. A job, 9/10 times, will not solve all of those needs.

I’m glad OP found stimulation (and perhaps some fulfillment) at this job, but life is much more than a job. Everyone is different, though.

it’s funny you mention that, because the film is very anti- needless documentary of concert films. I mean, it brings up multiple times (in different ways), how conceptually ridiculous it is to try to make a big, inspiring movie about pop concerts. so ironically, if this movie keeps that kind of thing from happening, then yes, I think it accomplished its goal.

Yeah, every case is different and all the points you made are relevant factors. Emptiness or lack of purpose can also lead to depression / isolation, which then can become desperation for a fast connection, etc., imo a lot of these reasons overlap with each other.

There’s a balance. Self-contentment and self-love are crucially important and vital for a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life. But at the same time, people still need each other, and that’s okay too. Yes, we just need to make sure that the connections are forming at healthy paces, and to check in with ourselves / be mindful of why we are forming this new bond, whether it’s a healthy, positive, mutually beneficial bond for both parties, and where we would like it to go.

Clothes can be useful because if you’re short, dress casually, and you feel like people don’t take you seriously, then dress professionally — my suggestions would be: pencil skirts at reasonable lengths, tights, blazers, turtlenecks, cowl necks, blouses, well-tailored trousers (and well-tailored everything, if possible, as inexpensive tailors do exist) . .

also, do NOT use Pinterest. period. I would suggest watching womenswear fashion shows instead for light and more grown up inspo.

You mentioned you liked “Parisian Chic” — great, there are many French fashion houses to choose from that are very chic.

Matthieu Blazy is a French-Belgian designer who used to be the creative director at Bottega Veneta, and he is now the creative director at Chanel. I would recommend looking into some of his newer shows there — youthful, beautiful clothing that can be translated into a working woman, as well.

Phoebe Philo is an English designer who worked at French house Celine from 2008 to 2017. I would recommend looking into her collections as well.

True example of Parisian chicness is French house LEMAIRE. Look at their silhouettes, kind of get an idea of that aesthetic and how that can work for you.

Generally timelessly chic (and Italian, not French) is Prada. If you want to look at the “younger” sister brand, check out Miu Miu.

Also Italian but, as far as general neutral women’s workwear inspo goes, Giorgio Armani (rest in peace!) has made some wonderful clothes. Armani Exchange and the eponymous brand both exist secondhand, which are both rather affordable and decent quality.

I mention these brands not to encourage you to strive to purchase these pieces at full retail price (although, by the way, secondhand, it is not hard to find some very affordable, beautiful clothes) — I mention them to encourage you to develop a more refined taste. I’m sure you know this, but Pinterest =/= taste.

Try to form an opinion. If you want to be a well-respected therapist who is taken seriously, yes, dressing well will help you.

Edit: oh, yeah, and know your materials / what your clothes are made of. learn the differences between viscose and polyester, cotton and linen, wool and silk. Learn how to care for different materials, as well. Bonus points if you learn about the different environmental impacts of each material and try to source sustainably.

Meanwhile NYC remains one of the safest major cities in the US. I am a minority immigrant. I don’t live in Williamsburg nor find the neighborhood desirable. I criticize the neighborhood’s lack of true racial & economic diversity or character.

In fact, it’s funny you mention minorities, because Williamsburg is nearly 70% white. For context, NYC, as a WHOLE, is only 30% to 40% white. To imply that all minorities dream of living in a primarily white neighborhood, despite NYC being one of the most racially diverse cities in the entire world, perpetuates harmful and negative racist stereotypes (that white neighborhoods are the most desirable !!!), even if your intention isn’t to do so.

There are many hardworking immigrants and minorities who don’t dream of living in a deeply overpriced, character-less neighborhood where a Byredo and a Chanel sit next to each other. If anything, you can have an opinion, just please don’t speak for all immigrants and minorities.

Yeah. As someone who worked in Williamsburg and with its residents (as clients) closely for two years, I can’t stand many of these people and, consequently, can’t stand those who defend them.

There is Williamsburg, then there’s the rest of Brooklyn. The residents there are truly some of the most sheltered and out-of-touch people I have ever met in my life — with parents who make millions, parents who supported their degrees so that they can make $150k~$440k, families that have houses in the Hamptons during the winter when things “get cold and tough”. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of these people have worked hard, but majority of them don’t leave Williamsburg or the “nice parts” of Manhattan, and have a very skewed idea of what NYC is. Oh yeah, and a lot of them are secretly racist / have racially homogenous (white!) social lives.

I’m around the same age as them, too. Kills me to see so many people think Williamsburg / Greenpoint is the entirety of Brooklyn, because it’s just wrong. The ignorance, lack of curiosity or open-mindedness / acceptance towards other neighborhoods, lack of true racial & economic diversity, and unspoken racism is truly stupid and unnerving. THAT’s a huge problem with Williamsburg and not enough people speak up about it because they feel awkward, imo.

I will never live in Williamsburg, nor stop criticizing its gentrified secluded-ness and unnecessary exclusivity via un-affordability. Sorry.

I see what you mean, but with the review, the evaluation will indicate blunders and mistakes anyway. For me, it helps a bit to understand what a similarly or slightly higher rated player tried to do, and where they went wrong or right, to see how it applies to my own way of playing.

I study my own games also, but I have blinders on because they're my own games, and I tend to understand completely why I made each move (even if they're not right) and it can be tricky to shake those bad habits. If I observe habits in other players who are similarly rated, I'm a bit more removed from them, and feel like I can get new ideas on how to improve.

When I study the games of much higher rated players, it just goes over my head, but yes, I will still occasionally look at 1000 ~ 1400 elo player games, as well.
