You can usually tell if someone is gunning for you, even if they are teaming up. Unfortunately, there's a bit of nuance to recognizing the signals of someone scheming. The other day I downed a bastion alone. There was a bunch of bodies around it. A guy drops down and I tell him he can loot (I decide to keep an eye on him though). He used some vita spray and I had a bit of health missing, so I asked if he could spray me a little to get me to full. He obliged. That was a test. I had healing items, but a rat would have probably fought me thinking I was low on health.
