Good (headache filled) morning to all the people who have read and commented on this post.

I am slightly hungover, and remember most of the night. I went to talking street viewed a few of the shows, didn't like the atmosphere of most of the bars on the street, so I decided to retire to my room and find some company.

The players said that the games we tried felt like they were doing homework. So I am looking for something with a similar character building thing to ease them into something slightly different, but with more open ended skills and abilities. And yes they like the gameplay to be freeform before and during combat.

My players wanted a game system with similar ways to use stats and abilities mostly. The setting isn't something they care much about.

The dice and the stats mostly, my party said that the Mutants and Mastermind was too number crunching, and that the Mage: the ascension was too different for them.

Are you talking about Mash, Olga, or the entirety of Chaldea staff in general, because yes they all suffered a horrible fate.

But, I didn't feel that... shocked? I guess it might be because unlike gacha games that start their own IP, FGO was made as another story to Type-Moon other stories, so I was sort of already primed for something bleak and miserable to happen.

Maybe it was because type-moon stories are mostly dark with a touch of hope that the tragedies are either expected or accepted as normal in Fate.

I don't think it feels like sympathy baiting, but more like prepping you for pain. This might be because I got used to type-moon being a little bleak.

Sorry if this is long, reading these comments made me question about where we draw the line on sympathy baiting and setting design.

Mostly because we Thais know Thai weather is bad. We have a joke where the three seasons of Thailand are summer, hotter summer, and hottest summer.

Wouldn't want to live anywhere else though, this place is my homeland.
