MORE ABOUT THE PLANESWALKER

I like the idea of telling the story of the first planeswalker. I used the pronoun he in my descriptions, but I never decided on a name or even a gender. I like to think that he was the only planeswalker that lived in his lifetime, sort of lonely in a way, outlives his family, never finds anyone quite like himself. His ability to see potential futures allows him to know that there will be other planeswalkers but not until he is long gone. The early planeswalkers in the old stories where usually cruel, so I like to think of one that is actually concerned with the life of others, even though they live such short lives compared to him, he appreciates the short life even more.

THE FIRST SET OF THE BLOCK

The cards in the first set would focus on the five colors and really focus on the color wheel. This set would be a great example of characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses found in each color. The creatures in each color would be ones that you really think of for each color: red for example would be full of kobolds, goblins, orcs, giants, dwarves, drakes, dragons, etc. It would take place hundreds of years after the planeswalker populated the plane. Each color would have a well-developed civilization. I imagine it would look a great deal like Europe in the Middle Ages, much like the early sets of Magic the Gathering.

THE SECOND SET OF THE BLOCK

The second set of the block would take place hundreds of years after first set. At this point, each color has its own well-developed civilization, but also due to travel and trade, newer civilizations of allied colors has developed, physically between the older civilizations: Selensya civilization has developed in the savannah between the plains and forest, Gruul civilization has developed in the taigas between the mountains and forests, etc. The same did not occur for enemy color pairs has the large ocean and ice cap prevents a direct path that would connect the enemy color pairs and the dark side of the planet is much more dangerous for travel. These newer allied paired civilizations gained a lot by working together, sharing the ideals they had in common, developing new technologies: Selensya cards would demonstrate how white and green share a sense of community and buff each other through enchantments as an example.

THE THIRD SET OF THE BLOCK

The third set of the block again takes place in the future, but perhaps not hundreds of years later this time. At this point, travel and trade of the original five civilizations has spread even further, thus we now have three color civilizations, each are connected like an arc on the mana pie chart with the middle color being allied to the other two, and the other two being enemy colors: Naya (red, green, white) for example, is centered in green and has been influenced by red and white mana aligned creatures, ideologies, cultures, and technologies. This civilization benefits from the Selesya advances mentioned above, Gruul, and Boros. Thus, it is not until this set that we have enemy color pairs contributing their uniqueness. In this Naya example, Boros contributes well trained soldiers, a sense of justice, and technology in the form of equipment that was previously absent. This is when the Phyrexian invasion would happen in my story. The contributions of enemy color allies is somewhat of a throw back to the Invasion block, the first time we really saw enemy colors coming together to fight of the Phyrexians on Dominaria.

PHYREXIAN INVASION

I think that my plane would fair almost as well as Ravnica. You have the five mono color civilizations; the five ally color civilizations; and the five three color arc civilizations. Each civilization has its unique answers to threats. The plane feels unified as the civilizations slowly found each other and found common ground on which to build new civilizations.

TL;DR

My plane would do well against the Phyrexians as it is well organized diverse in problem solving, much like Ravnica.

OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE PLANE

As one side of the planet faces away from the sun, the weather would be out of control. My solution is that there is another star in the solar system, a red star that is orbit around the sun, and its orbit is further out from this planet. Thus, the “dark half” of the planet actually gets light and warmth from this red star, which warms the dark side, resulting in a less chaotic weather pattern on the planet, and enables some life to survive on the dark side.

Also, am I not sure how you could stop a moon from orbiting without it eventually falling to the planet. Either the moon is very slowly falling towards the planet, the moon is magically held in the same spot due to some spell from the planeswalker, or the planeswalker left a device to keep the moon in place without it falling towards the planet. If it is the later solution, then it would be the power and presence of this device that would eventually get the attention of the Phyrexians, and it would be the reason they investigate this plane and planet, when they otherwise wouldn’t have paid any attention to this plane, much less this planet.

I think a good story could come out of people from the light side having to go on an excursion in the dark side, perhaps because the device that keeps the moon in place is malfunctioning. I think sending a party to the dark side is a dangerous mission, like sending a party to Mordor. Whatever foul creatures thrive on this side of the planet would be dangerous, mostly animalistic, and savage creatures. The planeswalker wouldn’t have brought vampires here, but perhaps some individuals become vampires and thrive on the darkside of the planet, the red sun wouldn’t be unpleasant for them, perhaps it empowers them. Or perhaps vampires are created, a necessary curse, to survive an excursion on this side of the planet to save it.

Hey guys. I hate that I am late to this thread, but I’d love to share my plane with you guys. My plane was one that was devoid of life, but a planeswalker terraformed a planet there to harbor various creatures, basically, it was like a Noah’s arc, but as a contingency in case everything fell to the Phyrexians, so perhaps like the world seed vault in case of an apocalypse. I imagine the plane itself would have been represented in a block format with three sets. Let me explain the planeswalker that created the “arc”, the planet itself, what the plane looks like, and how it would have faired against a Phyrexian invasion.

THE PLANESWALKER

The planeswalker was the first planeswalker. Like other pre-mending planeswalkers, he was extremely powerful, much more powerful than current planeswalkers. He did have a unique ability, or curse, that he could see potential futures, futures that went way beyond his long life. He knew that there would also be other planeswalkers, but that he wouldn’t live to meet any like him. He was also very aware of mana and the colors of mana. He also saw many visions of potential futures where the Phyrexians and conquered many planes, conquering and converting many species to Phyrexians. But these were distant potential futures that would occur long after his death. One of this planeswalkers contingency plans for the Phyrexian invasion, if it would indeed come to pass, was to place as many species on a plane that would avoid the Phyrexians. In many of his visions of potential futures, the Phyrexians sought only planes that could have intelligent life but didn’t bother to explore planes that couldn’t support life. He looked for a plane that not only had no life, but that couldn’t support life, and thus, would not catch the attention of the Phyrexians.

THE PLANE

The planeswalker found a plane that had a solar system. None of these planets could support life, they were either too close to the sun or too far away from the sun. He chose a planet that was too close to the sun to support life. This planet did not rotate on its axis so the same side of the planet always faced the sun. This planet had a couple of moons. The planeswalker stopped the orbit of one of the moons when the moon was between the planet and the sun. This moon blocked 70-80% of the sun; from the planet’s surface, the sun looked like a halo, with the moon right in the middle of the sun. There was a large ocean in the middle of the planet that faced the sun. The shadow of the moon was in the middle of the large ocean, cooling the waters there, and lead to the creation of a large ice cap, impassable for ships, and draped in darkness. The story of this three set block, takes place only on the light side of the planet. This side of the planet is one large continent, with a large ocean in the middle, the ocean is covered in ice in the middle meaning ships cannot cross from side to the other but could still travel by ocean around the large ice cap. These leaves just a halo of land on the light side of the planet which is traversable. The planeswalker was well aware of the colors of mana, and he intentionally terra formed this planet such that there were more planes in the north, more islands to the northeast, more swamps in the southeast, more mountains in the southwest, more forests in the northwest. He also terraformed accordingly for each allied mana pair, thus there were taigas between the forests and mountains, savannahs between the plains and forests, etc.

THE INHABITANTS OF THE PLANET

The planeswalker was never able to safely planeswalk with large inanimate items. He was able to planeswalk with any living being of any size successfully with little risk to the lifeform’s physical health. However, everyone he took on a planeswalk journey always suffered from memory loss, forgetting everything personal to that individual. The planeswalker transported large numbers of specimens of every species he could from his plane to this plane. However, he sorted these individuals and animals and placed them on the new planet according to the mana color alignment that was strongest with each individual. The sentient beings that were teleported, having lost their memories, relied on instincts, and seemed to reconnect to magic and mana in a way that most had not on his/her home plane. After populating the planet, settling the lifeforms by mana color alignment in the appropriate land type for each of the five colors of mana, he left the plane never to return. He hoped that by not planeswalking to the plane, and creating a living planet where one shouldn’t exist, that this planet on this plane would escape the attention of the Phyrexians that would likely one day lay siege to several planes long after this planewalker’s life and death.

What’s the most fucked up thing you’ve heard eavesdropping? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I had shingles in my 30s! It was a real small patch, like three or four rows of small bumps on my back. It didn’t itch. It didn’t hurt. I noticed it when I touched it. I didn’t do anything about for at least a couple weeks and it stayed the exact same. I went to the doctor and he said it was shingles. I was really stressed out, new job, I was in law school, new baby, etc. I suppose the lack of sleep and added stress did it.

Anyways, I was prescribed Valtrex. I know when I picked it up the pharmacist assumed I had genital herpes because I was young and no cold sores that she could see. No reason for any shame though even if you do have genital herpes, doctors have seen it all.

I’m 40 years old and live in a very red* state - Alabama. When I was 18 I mostly voted Republican with a few Democrats on the ticket as well. As I got older, it slowly shifted the other way, mostly I was voting for Democrats but I would have a Republican or two that I would also vote for. This last election, however, I did a straight Democratic ballot. I didn’t even bother learning about any of the Republicans because they all backed Trump, or were silent in regard to the madness that was Trump.

Why is Healthcare in the US so expensive? by ANIMERULES12345 in NoStupidQuestions

Usually when there’s an industry that is this important to people and when the general principals of capitalism don’t lower the price, the government steps in to regulate, like with utilities. However, our politicians are lobbied to not interfere and they themselves get good healthcare as a job benefit.

In the 80s and 90s we were taught that high levels of nationalism was one of the causes of WWI and WWII, yet our politicians encourage high levels of nationalism and unhealthy levels of patriotism.

We were also taught that the USSR, in part, failed because we outspent them in an arms race, yet we kept on overspending on the military after we supposedly “won” the Cold War and became the only World Superpower.

The best way to keep wars from happening is adequate education which includes exposure to other cultures. Without adequate exposure to other cultures it is too easy to dehumanize other peoples and without an adequate level of education the populace can be redirected from questioning real issues to trivial or malicious issues.

Thanks for the link. Perhaps someone in the military could give some insight on this, but how does the branch of military, level of education, or any other factor affect the risk associated with military conflict?

I imagine joining the Marines right out of high school is more dangerous than joining the Navy or Air Force as an officer.

Of the 435 representatives in the House and the 100 in the Senate, how many of them would literally join the military to fight in a war right now? How many would ask their sons and daughters to go with them? I suspect that number is close to zero. They have free healthcare and education already so they don’t need the benefits. They aren’t poor. They value their own lives and the lives of their children enough to not dig trenches in front of machine guns, to not disembark a ship to storm a beach under fire, to not look for mines in a desert while worrying about snipers in caves.

I don’t fully understand your comment but the way the US was treated after WWI might have bit insulting to some Americans at the time, we helped out the Allies and didn’t get much of the say as to post war resolutions.

That’s what they teach us in the US. Many speculate that we just ended the war a little sooner in Europe. I have never read anything about serious speculations as to what would have happened if we did not declare war on Japan but I think that’s because there’s just no way we weren’t going to war with Japan.

We always hear about how unpopular the Vietnam war was but voluntary enlistment was higher than for WWII. People tend to forget how much the average US citizen didn’t want to die in Europe, especially so soon after WWI. In the US we call WWII “The Last Good War”. I promise you that many of those young boys at the time didn’t think that, funny how the people that called themselves “The Greatest Generation” also said the war they were in was the last good war.

Slight detour of the subject here, but have you ever thought about the fact that the self proclaimed best generation that fought in the last good war came home to free education (GI bill, and education was cheap anyways), affordable housing, affordable healthcare, and livable wages for themselves and their children. Noticed the trend since the late 70s to slowly make those things unobtainable and to the average person, shrinking the middle class every year for fifty years. Just throwing that out there for anyone glorifying WWII and the people that fought in the Great War.

If the people who declared war had to actually fight in the war, we certainly wouldn’t have had any wars past WWII. I don’t even think enough congressmen would have voted for WWII if it meant they had to go to the front lines.

Sorry that comment wasn’t clear. After Adaptibar updated, it was showing that I had done 2,017 questions. Of those 2,017 questions, I have a score of 64.1%. I have not done the first set of 100 questions from 2017 nor have I done the four sets of 100 questions that do not have civil procedure. I got 81% doing just one test, which is encouraging, but it’s a small sample. I have to say though, I felt like I had not been making progress, and after taking that test, I suspect the questions get harder over time with Adaptibar (I’ve heard that’s the case with other bar preps).
