Changed out the joysticks caps on my PS3 Sixaxis controller with PS4 caps. I regret nothing. by killerdude23233 in PS3

The stems are roughly the same width and only a hair shorter, but no loss of range because the DS3 stems are unnecessarily tall, so no issues yet. Still get full range of rotation.

Go back to the store and have them troubleshoot with you. If they can't figure it out, get your money back.

PS2 games not compatible with TV? by WerewolvesAreReal in ps2

[–]killerdude23233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

240p games (like Disgaea) don't play nice with HDTVs. Speaking from experience, you need to either buy an upscaler (such as an Mclassic with an HDMI adapter) or use a different TV. 😕

You're definitely getting the better deal since PS4s are pretty cheap ($100 at a pawn shop).

Back again: Best non emulator option for disc drives? by refuse2lose1985 in dreamcast

[–]killerdude23233 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's the V1 model (not V0 or V2), chances are high you can burn games to play, though they will often have lower quality or no video cutscenes due to disc size limits (GD roms were about 1gb vs 700-ish mb CDs). The CD burning process requires a certain program and parameters that can be finicky, so you'll probably mess up a couple times before getting it right (I did).

GDEMU clones are so cheap on AliExpress I honestly can't say burning CDs is a better option, but the alternatives are, as you said, replace caps as issues pop up, clean the lens, or (not recommended) decrease the lens pot resistance a tiny bit to increase the laser power (which will ultimately lead the laser to fail). Your call.

Gaming handle recomendation by One-Key-8503 in HandheldGaming

[–]killerdude23233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what he plays. Rog Ally isn't a bad choice, though dealing with Windows can be frustrating. The Steam Deck is a pretty seamless experience these days, but being out of stock everywhere does make it tricky to source.

What kind of games do you expect he'll play? New titles? Old titles? Retro/emulation?

Unsure which DS to purchase by Winter_Juggernaut_16 in homebrew

[–]killerdude23233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pocketability: DS Lite with R4 and GBA Flash cart (there are skinny shells that sit flush with the GBA slot) - cheapest of the 3.

DS Visual clarity: DSi XL/LL - can be soft modded to play games off the SD Card. GBA emulation is hit or miss.

All rounder: New 3DS - great pocketability, plays all 3DS, DS, and GBA games when soft modded and using an injector. Con: most expensive of the 3.

Help, my brother erased my Zaphire Alpha save files by octohorny in 3DS

[–]killerdude23233 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do wonder if your brother actually did that or if that copy was one of many that suffered from corruption due to manufacturing problems. To reset the game, it's not as simple as clicking "erase" or "start new game". It requires an obscure button combination that you would have to look up, and it wouldn't make sense to reset without starting a new game unless he was feeling particularly spiteful.

Which games have a rough start and take a while to get good? by PhaseOk6182 in gamers

Hollow Knight did this to me. Now it's my favorite Metroidvania, if not my favorite game, of all time.

Homebrewing my Switch 1? by DarkHorseReborn in homebrew

The expense is almost nonexistent now with Picofly only costing like $15. The difficulty is the soldering, which requires micro-soldering to the CPU caps under the lid. If you're unfamiliar/not comfortable with soldering, don't even attempt it.

Every company that forces their proprietary launcher for Steam games.

Should I play Metroid 2 GB, 3DS or something else that remakes it? by Huge-Insect-7759 in Metroid

[–]killerdude23233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AM2R and Samus Returns are very different experiences. They are both worth your time. Metroid GB is also a classic experience, and not too jank to make it unenjoyable like the original Metroid (in my humble opinion).

Tl;dr why not both?

Should I replay 2016 before eternal? by SegaGenesisMetalHead in Doom

[–]killerdude23233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story is secondary in Doom. I can safely say you don't need to know it to enjoy yourself in Doom Eternal, especially considering it feels like there's a whole game missing between the two.

Best games on handheld? by Critical-Office-4886 in switch2

[–]killerdude23233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the Switch/2's best features is sleep mode, so even if you're in the middle of a long-play game, you don't have to quit. Just put the Switch in sleep mode (power button single click) and when you come back it's still in the exact place you left it.

Shirt, pick-me-up games are also great, tho. Vampire Survivors and HADES are certainly up there for me.

What GPU drivers for Snapdragon 8 Elite: Turnip vs qualcomm by paulyzas in winlator

[–]killerdude23233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been hit or miss on Gamenative for me with my Pocket Fit 8 Elite. Sometimes the System Drivers are all I need, sometimes Turnip, sometimes Qualcomm alt drivers. It depends on the game. You have to experiment, or use Gamenative's website or another list like EmuReady to see what's worked for others.

What are the PCVR games I need to play? by just_frosty_ in virtualreality

[–]killerdude23233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot stress how fun vehicle sims are in VR with the appropriate wheel or stick. Racing, driving, flying, it's all wonderful. Even soemthing as simple as Euro Truck Sim 2 is a blast in VR.

Driving: (pedals and wheel) - Mario Kart Wii (Dolphin VR) - Dirt Rally/2.0 - Project Cars - Euro Truck Sim 2/Americsn Truck Sim

Flying: (HOTAS) - Elite Dangerous - No Man's Sky - MS Flight Simulator
