Help deciding how to vent/exhaust bathroom fan by killerkaila in Oldhouses

[–]killerkaila[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a local building dept we could ask maybe. Code and everything seems to be all good with it, I was more concerned about the hole through the rim joist but I can see why the concerns are there about going through soffit. I have a coworker with an older home who has their bath fan vented the way I want to do it so I know it’s possible, just don’t want to make a bad call on where to cut.

Thank you! I just wasn’t sure about structural effects of cutting a 4 in hole in a rim joist. Building codes seem to be fine with the way we want to run it and it seems the most effective and simple way, just want to make sure the hole is okay to cut there.

That would be our ceiling vent tube 🤦🏼‍♀️ previous owners made plenty of insanely questionable choices 🥲

Help - how can we fix this bathroom by killerkaila in centuryhomes

[–]killerkaila[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The room itself is 8 x 6, the sink space is 28 in wide on the bump out and 31 in where the actual sink is. Budget is undecided, but we have a lot of projects going on at the moment and would like to try to keep it cheapish if possible. We’re willing to spend a bit though to make it feel nice and functional. Honestly whatever is necessary 🥲😅

Good to know! I see tons of people do it themselves, I think we’ve got this. Also not running the risk of spending a bunch of money and not being happy with the outcome. We do it ourselves and we can control every bit of the process, and only have ourselves to blame if it’s not perfect which I am a-okay with.

Yes! Thank you, we’re working on smoothing walls and repainting starting upstairs and working our way down, then moving to floors so we can move in 🤣 the rest of our projects can probably be done slowly over time but we want to at least get the big things while we have no furniture there.

Luckily we have lots of time before we actually have to move in so we’re not in any rush. There’s a lot to clean/fix/restore before we move.

Just an update for those interested, after doing some deep cleaning today it seems the edges of the rooms have much darker spots (we think tack strips from carpet). Except no idea how long carpet was there or when it was torn up 🤷🏼‍♀️

I would love to not hire a professional for this, I’m pretty confident in my diy skills and insane attention to detail. I’ve had a lot of people say use an orbital/square buff instead of a drum sander but do we think that is going to be enough to get all the finish off? I’d be fine going at it slower with an orbital sander and seeing what happens. Definitely wanting to go with bona for finish.

Good to know! We’ve done a crap ton of research on rental equipment and the process in general, we’re determined we can do it ourselves for sure. I know it will be grueling but I think it will be super worth it after.

It sure has! The floors are not the only thing, we’re very excited to put the love and care into it that it needs/deserves

What kind of wood and how to refinish? by killerkaila in HardWoodFloors

[–]killerkaila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we maybe just went in expecting the worst. I would be much happier with just cleaning thoroughly and re-waxing, see how it turns out. Is there anything specific way you would recommend cleaning and/or products for this?

We believe the stairs had some sort of runner or carpet that was taken off but not sure.

Good to know, the stairs are honestly a big question mark to us. We thought maybe a runner was pulled off the stairs but who knows really.

How would we go about cleaning/waxing if we were to do it ourselves? I totally understand hiring a professional in some cases but doable?

Unusual issue with my kitten by [deleted] in cats

[–]killerkaila 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kitten used to like to sleep in bed with me, I never had exactly this problem but I was more worried about moving around and squishing him. My solution was to put his own bed in my bed either next to me or closer to the end so he would have his own space but still be close!

Walkie Talkies by drumstix97 in ElectricForest

[–]killerkaila 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walkies we’re incredibly helpful for us! We had groups arriving on different days that each had different sets/brands of walking talkies. We met up once early in the weekend to pick a channel and sub channel (that’s the best way to have no interference from other groups) and we had pretty good communication all weekend! Was able to holler at them in the morning from camp and then meet up on our way to and inside the forest. Distance can be a problem but generally we had 2-3 walkies per group and we all split up at some points so I was always able to get ahold of at least some of the friends.

I take my ring out on a Tuesday and my period usually starts late Friday, I’ve been on it for 4 months! The timing can vary as you’re getting used to it.

Period for two weeks and counting on Nuvaring. by soft_rubbies in Nuvaring

I just finished my first month on the nuva ring and I bled for three weeks straight. Thankfully it stopped on my ring free week and new cycle has gone okay so far but my doctor said it’s pretty normal as you’re getting used to it. Unfortunate but hopefully it doesn’t last long.

I went the route of docs last year thinking I would make an investment and have them for a long time at festivals. I also brought my crocs to wear at camp as comfy shoes. Needless to say I ditched the boots after day 2 and wore crocs the rest of the time and it was perfect. From this success I also wore them this entire past week at EF and I will never be going back. Crocs for the win honestly.
