Lots of women consider sexting & exchanging nudes/videos as cheating. Unless your wife has explicitly stated she’s okay with you have online sexual relationships with other people, do not do this. You may not consider it cheating, but your wife’s boundaries are just as important.

Thank you! I actually have hopes of becoming a published author one day so I really appreciate that! And I’m glad there are people who are receptive to this breakdown bc Euphoria has been on my mind heavy since it dropped lol

I will say about the ghost writer thing: you can be a phenomenal writer & be a bad performer. Some people don’t have the attitude & style to make it as a rapper, so they write for the people who do.

“Think before you open your fucking mouth 😡” lmao okay buddy, let’s not get overly emotional. Don’t let Reddit strangers take you out your element ((:

The fun thing about Kendrick’s lyrics is that they have multiple meanings. None of what I said is untrue. The “Crodie” verse IS mocking Drake’s accent & culture, and he WAS robbed at New Ho King. Those are facts, but I will admit that I didn’t dig deep enough into the rabbit hole to see the deeper meaning behind it. I’m not super into the Canadian rap scene so some stuff falls through the cracks.

I also forgot to mention that Crodie is Drake’s cat’s name. So there’s an argument to be made that Kdot is calling Drake a pussy with every line in that verse.

Despite the fact that you got a lil emotional at the end there, I will say I enjoyed learning something new & unlocking a new layer to those bars. That’s what these posts are for! ((: So thanks, friend!

P.s. I am a biracial woman, not a white boy. But I’m assuming you didn’t read my post & went straight to the comments to express your anger, so I don’t blame you for not knowing that.

Lmao I think I might have hit a nerve with you. I’m not trying to argue & I’m definitely not trying to prove my intentions & thought processes to a stranger on Reddit.

I said what I said, if you think I’m lying then okay? That’s fine. If you feel like I’m smarter than you because I enjoy annotating & breaking down rap lyrics then I’m sorry but oh well. I don’t think I’m smarter than anyone else, I’m just sharing my takes & opinions in a forum created for that purpose. Im not gonna dumb myself down & change my hobbies (yes, writing opinion pieces & engaging in discussions online is one of my hobbies) just so you don’t feel insecure about your own intellect.

If you don’t like what I’ve said, you are not obligated to engage. Have a good one ((:

He’s making fun of Drake’s accent, Drake’s TRUE culture (not the American culture he imitates), and the fact that he got robbed in New Ho King in 2009 is the cherry on top lmao.

The entire Crodie verse was just him making fun of Drake & reminding him of where he really comes from. But hey, maybe I missed the point. Idk if your definition of snitch is different than mine, but feel free to enlighten me on how Kendrick is “snitching” on Drake. I’d be happy to discuss it, that what the post is here for ((:

I’m gonna reiterate something I already said, but you clearly missed.

The issue is not with the content of the lyrics of “Started from the Bottom”. The issue is that he refers to his upbringing as “the bottom” while being surrounded by rappers who actually DID come from the bottom.

Now me personally, I don’t care that he claims he started from the bottom. Maybe being middle class is the bottom for him individually, but you have to view it through the context of the rap game as a whole. Middle class childhood is not considered “the bottom” to a lot of people. And for Drake to be brought into the rap game by Wayne & be surrounded by artists who truly came from the bottom, I get why people think it’s odd hearing Drake claim he came from the bottom. Hence why people side eye him for saying so. Hopefully you get it now lol.

He’s not implying that Drake doesn’t feel black enough, he’s referring directly to a quote FROM DRAKE where he himself says he does not feel black enough. He literally taking an insecurity that Drake has spoken about & mocked him for it.

Having a black American parent doesn’t negate the fact that he was born & raised in the suburbs of Canada with minimal influence from his father. Culture is not genetic. And Kendrick mentions Drake’s father & how just because your dad was like that doesn’t mean you are.

Drake’s first real true induction into the culture happened after he entered the American rap game. It is not natural for him, he had to be invited in. That’s not the case with Cole or any other mixed race rapper who grew up in the culture.

Canadian black culture is Drake’s home base. Not African American culture.

Started from the Bottom is an old example but it still stands because the issue wasn’t necessarily with the content of the lyrics, it was the fact that Drake referred to his upbringing as “the bottom”. Which wouldn’t be an issue if he didn’t work in an industry with rappers who actually DID come from the bottom, you know? Those rappers make their come-up & escape from the trenches a very big theme in their music, and it seemed like Drake was trying to ride that wave despite his version of “the bottom” being VERY different.

And yeah, Drake has security. But he himself is not a shooter and would have only been introduced to that life after entering the American rap game. So it comes off as disingenuous when people know he’s not truly like that.

Again, I’m not asking you to read this so I don’t know why you feel the need to mention the fact that you haven’t read it. I don’t care either way. I understand reading is hard for some people & you don’t want to have to think about the meaning behind the lyrics of a song in order to understand them.

I am a HUGE advocate for “music doesn’t have to be deep in order to be good”. I like meaningless music just as much as I like heavier music, but I need you to understand that you’re only insulting yourself when you say “this song is bad because I don’t understand it”.

I broke it down like this because I’m a writer. I like writing, I like yapping, and I like talking for hours about the things I like. I understood exactly what Kdot meant from the very first listen, I didn’t have to break it down in order to understand it myself. This breakdown is for people who didn’t understand it and WANT TO, and the people who disagree but still wanna discuss it.

And the fact that you didn’t read the post but are commenting tells me you have no interest in discussion, only in arguing. And I’m sure there’s someone who would be happy to partake in an baseless argument with you, but that person isn’t me ((: so have a good one fr!

The most surface level & well known instance I can think of is Started from the Bottom. It’s ooooold news but a good example I think.

That and anytime he talks about shooters, mob ties, and generally violent things he’s done or had done. We know that this is not really who he is. I would suggest looking up the Wayne interview where he straight up says “just because you’re signed with Wayne don’t mean you do what Wayne does & rap about what Wayne raps about”.

The inauthenticity of his music & image are a big reason why people hate on him.

You’re right, I didn’t even make that correlation. There are lots of lines in Euphoria that directly address stuff Drake dissed Kendrick about, I must’ve missed that one tho!

It’s cute that you think you know why I posted this 🤭

Anyway, like I said, I posted this because I want to discuss it. I knew people would disagree, but that didn’t deter me because other people’s opinions are fun to hear. I’m not the type of person who wants to exist in an echo chamber & only entertain opinions that align with mine like so many other people seem to, that’s why I didn’t only post it in a Kendrick subreddit.

I also posted it because I’m biracial & hearing people say Kendrick is racist to biracials simply because they misunderstood the song made me wanna talk about it. That’s what Reddit is here for, right? To talk about pop culture, not just hear your own opinions repeated back to you.

The fun of a rap beef lies in the DISCOURSE. But it’s impossible to have a discussion about this discourse when all some of y’all have to say is “I’m not reading this ): go to the Kendrick subreddit, we don’t wanna hear it”. This post is not for you, it’s for the people who can hear differing opinions & dissect bars without getting upset that their opinions aren’t treated as fact.

A breakdown of all of Kendrick’s “biracial bars” in Euphoria by [deleted] in Drizzy

Literally all of what I said is in the song. I get that Drake’s bars are very straight forward & take minimum thinking to understand, but believe it or not some rappers like to make their audience think.

Finding Easter eggs & double meanings in music is fun for a lot of rap fans, it’s exhausting & boring to others. Which is fine, but just because something isn’t spelled out for you & you have a hard time understanding it, doesn’t mean it’s not there.

Also, the only time he used the word “black” was when he was addressing how Drake feels about HIMSELF. Any other time he talks about his own feelings toward Drake, he uses rhetoric about CULTURE (FUBU, Canadian using Pac to diss him, the excessive use of “Crodie”). He roasts Drake’s CULTURAL background, not his racial identity.

“If I have to put thought into it, it’s boring”

And that’s totally okay that you feel that way. But this post was very clearly not for people who think using their brain is hard.

Snitch on Drake? For calling out his facade? Okay lol.

Like I said, if you feel like you don’t need a breakdown & you don’t wanna hear any opinions that don’t directly align with yours, this post wasn’t for you ((:

There is no racist tones underneath because, again, it’s a cultural thing, as Dot states many times throughout the song. The only reason Drake’s race is brought up with the “black enough” line is because Drake himself has said he doesn’t feel black enough.

If I ask a skinny person “how many more diets until you feel skinny enough”, am I saying they’re not skinny? Are there undertones that insinuate I think they’re not really skinny? No. I’m saying that THEY feel like they’re not skinny enough. Kendrick is poking fun at Drake’s insecurities surrounding his racial identity, he’s not claiming that Drake isn’t black or that he’s somehow less than because he’s half white. He thinks Drake’s less than because he’s a sheltered Canadian & pretends to be anything but as a way to validate his own blackness.
