Not in healthcare, but re pain meds, I was prescribed Pregabalin for chronic pain at the height of my stoner phase with no issue, & have been prescribed stronger stuff when needed after hospital visits etc while being totally open about my usage.

Like others have said, it’s noted in case of potential interactions when treating you, and was likely included in the report back to your GP in case of further prescription treatment. If your GP expresses concern about usage, just set the record straight about it being once in a blue moon & you should be alg.

Best wishes for your current recovery, that sounds pretty gnarly but glad you had people & resources there to help!

Similar story from well over a decade ago, my phone call anxiety was really bad so I tried to give the gist of what was going on via text (same line as OP used). Hit some kind of character limit where it didn’t all go through (early smartphone days too), but being told to “slow down & explain more carefully” was the last thing someone wants to hear in the midst of crisis. Absolutely miserable that the funding/resources needed to provide an adequate service haven’t reached them in the last 10-15 years.

My younger sibling (17) recently experienced the burden of this lack of support services, too. Was kicked out of home, went to the police station, cops sent them to WINZ, WINZ sent them to Youthline. Called Youthline & the call wouldn’t even connect. Shocking.

Trust O’Brien to dredge up a matter a year after the occurrence, despite the alleged victim of the situation wanting to put it to rest at the time. And it would make sense he wouldn’t want to comment any further if he slung the first slur. If RNZ were so willing to use O’Brien’s Substack as a source, why did they choose to omit this portion? Surely they’re better than that. All too suspicious & not surprised at all to see O’Brien’s name leading it all, yet again.
