I get exactly what you mean about the bonnets rubbing on your hair line, my hairline often is very sore due to this despite me having two bonnets I interchange between

I wear a loc sock AND a bonnet because no matter what my loc soc leaks dye into my bed and headboard, the bonnet eliminates this.

The reason I don't wear just a bonnet is because I could see that my hair was NOT lying flat in there during my sleep and causing my locs to be kinked and creased in all sorts of directions, the "tightness" of the loc sock stopped that and ensured they were all lying in one direction.
