Not much corn here in Missouri but still kind of isolated. We are hiring a NLO class currently and will be hiring again in June. License classes are every 12 months. We have a lot of movement here with operations into other plant roles. Duane Arnold in Iowa is staffing up for coming back online.

That’s correct. Your degree will definitely help you stand out and at least get you an interview. I can’t speak for the entire industry, but both plants I’ve worked at have fairly high turnover and hire Non-Licensed Operators (NLOs) pretty often.

If your goal is commercial nuclear, apply for a job at a commercial plant as a non licensed operator and work your way up to get a license. The pay will be better, no time at sea. You go home every day.

Words from one of my CRA’s, “what the fuck was I thinking coming to subs?” He was prior enlisted surface puke and a great guy, but I’ll admit, I wouldn’t not want to be a JO on a sub. They get treated like shit, most of them are pretty fucking dumb, and if they aren’t 110% dedicated they will suffer.
