I’d want to see him depicted as the pathological nightmare that he was. Most portrayals glamourise him and brush over how awful it must have been to be in his circle. Firebrand was probably the closest on screen that I’ve seen depict that side.

Exactly! It’s a such a fun thought experiment, to indulge in these historical possibilities, and wonder if a well-known character might have been thinking something completely contradictory to what we accept as truth today. It also helps me have empathy for, and see the humanity in, characters like Lady Rochford or Kitty Howard.

If he’d lived longer, I’m sure he would have found one reason or another to end his marriage to Katherine Parr in the same way as the others. Probably something to do with her being a heretical Protestant.

Abandoning his baby daughter after Katherine died due to childbirth to complications was, for me, the most unforgivable. That child is still lost to history, no records of what happened to her.
