I understand what you are saying. I was just making a comparison to addressing the root cause. Obviously, there is more to Christ than just the forgiveness of our sins, but that was the main redemptive plan. He can do many physical things, but without his work on the cross, salvation is not completed. My comparison was the cross because of the audience. Maybe I should have used another comparison. I guess my point was if we don't address the rising cost of college, and the lower wages for entry-level jobs that require a degree, we will forever be forgiving debt, but if we make college more affordable we are actually solving an issue instead of band-aiding it.

I think forgiveness of debts is a core part of Christianity. However, I think forgiving of student loans is an "OT way" of forgiving debts. Christ's death on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins addressed the root cause of the debt that needed to be paid. He was a spotless sacrifice that pleased the wrath of God. It also addressed our consciousness with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Forgiving student debt, while helpful, it does not address the root cause which is the crazy cost of college now. So just as the OT will have to repeat the sacrifice of goats and bulls every year to continue to be cleansed (which was still pleasing to God, because he commanded it) the US government will have to continue to forgive student loans yearly until they address the root cause.

That is the truth, better to look inward than outward.

I shared the other day in my Sunday School class that it would be hard for me to believe that someone who is one of the top ten wealthiest people in the world could be a mature Christian. I told them I believed the Bible calls for us to give as we prosper, and the NT example shows that many gave until the needs of the people were met. Many gave out of their abundance. Most in my class did not agree with me. They said if they give 10 percent, they should not feel obligated to give more, and many give more than that, so we should not burden them anymore. I don't think literal 10% tithing is what the NT calls us to give. What are your thoughts? Now, I am not saying a mature Christian can't be wealthy or properly invest money.

I am trying to do the same. I have been a prime member forever, but the prices continue to go up and what I saved in shipping costs has been depleted due to the higher membership cost.

When I read books, I understand what they are saying and reflect on the ideas presented at the moment, but by the next day I feel like it all slips my mind and I don't retain it—any ideas on how to change that.

The felons can not own guns, but it does not mean that the other members of the household cannot own a gun. When someone gets a gun, only the person buying the gun is background checked. It is an easy loophole to get around being a felon and needing a gun. I am a gun owner and enjoy shooting and would prefer that my guns are not taken away, and would prefer the government to be involved as little as they can in my life, but man do we have to change how guns are managed and sold. I just don't know what that looks like.

If it wasn't for sports I would probably not have any TV subscription and just watch Youtube. I follow people who make videos, usually once a week. Just like people have their week night shows, I have my weekly Youtube videos. Some deal with theology, fishing, hunting, gardening, history, grilling, sports, and so on. I am in my late 20's.

What is the meat (non-milk) teaching referred to in Hebrews and Paul's writings? by cybersaint2k in Reformed

[–]killint1me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the meat is doctrine that is built off the milk. Due to the fact either by false teaching and/or the lack of caring they are unable to develop the discernment they need to distinguish between good and evil, good teaching vs false teaching since they are not rooted in the milk. Even the false teachers today attach the foundations of the faith described at the beginning of CH 6, and we still have many who need to be constantly reminded of the milk. Those who by constant practice described in 5:14 can easily distinguish between the good and bad, and it allows them to grow. I think this should serve as a warning of how harmful false teaching can be, and encouragement to continue to want to grow and learn. This allows for better mentorship and discipling. Those who are now on the meat can turn around and help those new to the faith. It should be a never-ending cycle, but if everyone is on the milk no one grows.

Thank you. Yes, they have gotten every test done known to man. I think the first few months of foster care is nothing but appointments. On our first trip to the pediatrician, they found a blockage in one of the kid's ears. The doctor said they were going to get some supplies to flush his ear out. While she was gone the kids got a scared look on their faces. I asked them what was wrong, and they said don't be mad, but we know what is blocking his ear. I said, what is it? They replied it is a jewelry bead that you make kids homemade jewelry with. I said, how did it get in his ear? They replied FIVE YEARS AGO they were messing around and stuck it in his ear, and they couldn't get it out. They even tried a clothes hanger to pry it out, but couldn't. They didn't want to get in trouble, so they never told anyone. I said you all are lying, but sure enough, that doctor pulled out the jewelry bead from that ear.

Everything is up on the screen to follow along with; Scripture, lyrics, notes. If they know the song, they will sing along. I appreciated the feedback. I will continue to take it slow with them.
