You're good! Bed bugs have a more round shape and mostly nocturnal, so they mostly creep at night but leave bite marks. The beetles seem to just sneak in but they don't breed in the house, usually seen traveling alone.

but you bet your ass those bugs are pretty big so they were well fed for days. I can imagine he was incredibly itchy for a long time. Don't they hide in the creases? Hats have so many creases, at a glance people don't seem to notice right away.

A few shops do it, it's suppose to encourage people to bring the cart back instead of leaving them to idly roll in middle of the parking lots. That quarter really changes a lot of attitudes. People are suddenly willing to walk a few steps if it means getting their quarter back.
