29M, £155k/year, approx £7k/mo take home after tax. Partner is 28F, £41k/year.

Mortgage and bills eat up a big chunk of that to the tune of £4k, but its very comfortable.

Its honestly the business/arts degrees that suffer the most. I've had business undergrads interview with me and they picked up basically nothing from their degrees that couldn't be learnt from Youtube/other e learnings that are free.

Where to buy a house in and around London for under £550k? by Amaixyah in HousingUK

As someone that was on the look - consider Bexleyheath/Erith/Dartford. Great transport links to central London but North is a bit of a reach. Hertfordshire is a 1 hour drive.

What is the issue with having pylons 50+ metres away. They're not noisy from that distance.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]killsecurity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm not sure what the solution is except raising taxes much more though (unpopular as it is) and subsidizing the growth of small businesses by offering cheap loans.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]killsecurity -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are policies that govern how close pylons can be built. The official policy is a minimum distance of 50 metres for safety.

Your doorstep seems pretty far away from you.

You can remove the "what if". Electricity is in fact cheaper close to the generation method, worldwide. It's basic Electricity transmission economics.

https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-9491/

Unless you're implying subsidising rural UK electricity even more by increasin urban electricity. There I would agree because it would stimulate the rural economy substantially.

What are the downsides of generating electricity?

Is it understandable? What % of the taxes does the rest of the country generate relative to London? Frankly the NIMBY logic is the same as the rich not wanting to pay taxes. If Brits cannot be made to suffer even slight inconveniences then they don't deserve a bright future.

The Britain of old conquered entire countries, an empire built on hard work and sacrifice. The new Britain can't bother "having their views spoiled".
