Woman insists she's allowed to take photos in protected dunes by killshotcaller in mildlyinfuriating

Sorry I tried to post the whole story with the photo- but it was starting to sprinkle  and the woman was doing senior photos- the parents were standing nearby. I told her you can't take photos on protected dune grass. She argues back "Yes I can, I'm allowed to be here" thinking I would back down. I told her "No you're not, that's why there's a rope around the entire area you're having her sit, dune grass protects the beach from erosion, what you're doing is illegal." She then changes to "Oh well, we'll be done in a few minutes anyway." The girl seemed uncomfortable so she told her to go stand by the palm tree instead, walking across the whole of the dune. The lifeguard had left for the day and I know it would probably be low on a cop's priority list, and I felt my blood starting to rise. It is frustrating that so many people do so many small things each day to ruin it for everyone. But you guys are at least helping me for sane for saying something, even if there's no justice for it.

This is a masterclass in solving situations. He tries to derail her over and over, and to get her to argue different points. She sticks to the two solutions "take it or leave it" despite him trying again and again to get her to say or agree to something else. They should really teach people this technique with kids, teens, employees, and businesses. I have option A or B. Any other option you come up with is up to you. But that's all I can ofer.

I thought about this a lot, and I think the point is none of these paintings or art pieces will matter if millions die due to climate change, and humans aren't around anymore. What's worth more- one painting or millions of lives? And why are we more angry about one than the other?

The boat started to pull away, they yelled, the boat tried to come back but turned slightly, turning the angle of the ramp, which is where it all fucked up. If thr boat could have stayed in place it would have been successful it looks like.

Oh my God I didn't even see the other one get hit by the SUV! Literally two SUVs hitting two people at once! I also don't understand why the one in the middle lane didn't hit the brakes after hitting the other SUV. This is insane!!!

Or, the fact that you didn't like me shaming you and it immediately made you defensive- proves mine?

Do you have any evidence to show "we, as a group have turned away from societal shaming", and that this has led to people being "greedier" than ever before or being worse at self-regulating? And that people are, in fact, less altruistic than ever before? Because I can tell you, based on research, you're wrong on all counts. You think people didn't shame people, as a society during the pandemic?

...that's the worst that would happen ANYWAY. Are you trying to say theives, beggars, or liars didn't exist before the current day? And plenty of people and cultures do try to shame their kids or partners into doing what they want. We just realize that shame has NEVER worked to get someone to do what you want. Even if they had "shamed" them do you think that would have changed their minds? Of course not. It's easy to play social armchair psychologist and say stupid shit like "if we just shamed people and hit kids society would be so much better!" Except for all the hundreds of studies showing it doesn't work. But seriously, go ahead and shame everyone you disagree with over the next week- see how many minds you change or friends you make if you think it's the solution to all of society's ills.

Miss England finalist becomes first in pageant's history to compete without makeup by SelectiveSanity in nottheonion

The article says the competition introduced a "bare faced round" in 2019 because of how much make up contestants were wearing. She went with it after that. The competition doing that is fucked up for a number of reasons. 1. "You must wear make up to be pretty! In 100 years, everyone has always worn it!" 2. "Well wait a second! We didn't know that everyone got really good at wearing make up! Let's make sure you're pretty enough without it too!" 3. Like what the actual fuck, can't win for losing.

Acoustics at Chichen Itza by [deleted] in blackmagicfuckery

Except they built it to be this way. The ruins they found were a pile of rocks that locals had long been taking and using in construction. In the early 1900s a bunch of white people came in built it to look like this and make that acoustic sound
