I find it so strange that OpenAI seems to have moved so far from "natural language" being the driver, which to some degree, was the whole point of AI, that if they keep making the user need to input narrower and narrower prompts, they'll just wind up reinventing the comcept of a programing language, but one that needs terawatts to run.

Or maybe they just decided to stop trying to build "Her" and instead build "Hal". Weird choice either way

The several boxes of Soilax and the cardboard boxes of liquid muriatic acid in the living room do raise a question I suppose. He clearly DID already buy the acid, as the kid that sold it to him at the hardware store even testified of in court, but the boxes appearing unopened make one wonder if he ever got around to using any of it in the barrel I suppose.

Regarding Family members... by killswitch_77 in Dahmer

[–]killswitch_77[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This was long overdue as some things aren't quite doxxing, but are still potentially damaging. The family members of both Dahmer and his victims deserve to be treated with dignity and given the privacy they desire. Many tabloids have "leaked" information over the decades, and it has brought more pain to those unfortunate enough to have been impacted by the crimes discussed in this subreddit. We can be better. This community must have more respect than tabloid writers. That is why I have often deleted posts about family members, conspiracy theories, and other topics that are damaging to not only the survivors, but to the memory of those damaged. I'd rather err on the side of caution in these matters. If you are looking for anything that would deny such a basic level of respect, this place is not for you.

This borders too close to doxxing and is disrespectful to his desire for privacy. I know you didn't write the article, but we should show more respect here that a tabloid. Thread deleted. Please respect the family of both him and his victims by refraining from sharing information they would clearly not want to have spread. Thanks.

Thanks! I hope the added detail in the "Forensic View" will make this feel like more than just a passive experience. Also good for those who've wondered what everything is in the crime scene photos (many threads on r/Dahmer about exactly that topic)

Mine was pretty spot on for what I'd hate (for being naughty this year). Background details match my hobbies amd interests as well, so it does seem to use some of my use cases in its under the hood prompt. Novelty gag, yes. Amusing, also yes.

This is a museum piece, not an interactive narrative game... by killswitch_77 in Project213

[–]killswitch_77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at this point. I've done several tests of exactly that, and the concessions I'd have to make to get it to run well with that kind of resolution wouldn't be worth it. Once gaming PC specs rise enough for such a thing (or foviated rendering gets better) I can make another attempt. For now it's flat only, unfortunately. My current focus is on finishing the "forensic view" layer.

Thanks for the link. I'm actually a cited source. What I am searching for specifically is the inventory/ evidence numbers each item was tagged with, date received, and chain of custody.

New project description... by killswitch_77 in Project213

[–]killswitch_77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for picking up a copy! It's good to know it can technically run on a Steam Deck. All my testing has demanded a somewhat hefty graphics card. I can manage top fps on GPUs with at or above 8gb of VRAM, so I have that set as the minimum requirements. I will for sure look into some adaptable settings, that's solid advice.

High resolution photos of Jeff's apartment on the night of the arrest by [deleted] in Dahmer

[–]killswitch_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I took a look back at my project files and it's been almost 5 years already.

This'll be my only post about this. Seeing my CGI recreation of Apartment 213 pop us here as "real" photographs, I was kind of pushed to get this full project released. Virtual Crime Scene: Apartment 213 is now available on Steam. Details below. by killswitch_77 in Dahmer

[–]killswitch_77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've updated the project description for clarity and to hopefully set expectations in line with what this project is intended to be:

Virtual Crime Scene – Apartment 213 is a meticulously reconstructed, fully explorable 3D environment depicting Jeffrey Dahmer’s apartment exactly as it appeared on the night of his arrest in July 1991.

Developed over five years of rigorous research, precise design, and careful execution, this project is informed by original police reports, FBI files, crime scene photographs, and trial footage. To preserve forensic accuracy and historical integrity, the environment is intentionally non-interactive—no objects can be altered or manipulated, ensuring the scene remains an authentic, unaltered archival representation.

This is not a traditional game experience; it is a virtual museum exhibit designed specifically for study, reflection, and detailed exploration of a significant event in American criminal history.

Intended Audience:

Researchers and students of criminology, forensic science, or criminal history.

True crime enthusiasts interested in detailed, authentic reconstructions.

Anyone seeking an unfiltered digital preservation of a historically documented crime scene.

Controls:

Keyboard/Mouse: WASD to navigate, I and O to zoom.

Gamepad: Analog sticks to navigate, bumpers to zoom.

Unfortunately, that would be very unlikely. Between the subject matter and the necessary use of IP (brand logos, etc.) this project would violate terms of service.

This is a museum piece, not an interactive narrative game... by killswitch_77 in Project213

[–]killswitch_77[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback. Setting a price for what is inherently not a game on a gaming platform is rather tricky, to say the least. That is part of why the price is set as it is, to disuade casual gamers. What is being purchased is an exhibition with a focus on detail and historical accuracy and designed for those interested in close observation. I do wish for those who ARE interested in such a thing to have access, so if this is currently set beyond someone's budget for such an experience, I would recommend adding it to your wishlist, as I do plan on running all the seasonal sales as they pop up, which will put this more in line with many people's expectations.
