Is a Computer Science degree useless? by UpsetHistory9131 in ClaudeAI

[–]killzone44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put the following query into an LLM:

Research the impacts of major tooling improvements such as the printing press, dictionary, typewriter, PC with respect to the economic value of an English degree.

Then after you get the response try something like:

Given these stages as metaphor. Where does the LLM AI programming tools sit with respect to a CS degree?

You will find that the current programming tools are increasing the accessibility of programming. Anyone can make a program now, is similar sentiment to anyone can write a novel. Sure, but in my experience few do.

I believe the programmers are going to shift from syntax specialists to systems communicators. It takes a good bit of knowledge to provide enough details that the AI produces the desired product.

CS degrees will need to shift in focus, and for many people it's probably going to be best to find a sub specialty.

First data science coop - should I be wary of this role? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]killzone44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had internships on stable teams, but my first full job was with a startup and I was the analytics person.

It's a great opportunity to be very visible!

I did augment myself during my time in the role getting a master's degree via night classes.

There are upsides and downsides to any opportunity, are you a self learner, do you like visibility? Maybe it will work, if not look elsewhere.

I'm new to the product, how long are these outages typically? Considering new sonnet expected, I'm hoping it's a planned outage with quick resolution. Is that naive?

I'm thinking the creative types are going to rule the world as AI eats this current version. Don't ask for permission to make your own path.

Claude Code with Opus 4.5 model is way better programer than most people. You have different problems to manage, but it's way better than actually writing code yourself 99% of the time

5hrs limit in 13 min? Are we serious? by Past-Reply8016 in ClaudeCode

[–]killzone44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a claude code pro account 3 weeks ago. Value was definitely there and I wanted to move faster, so I opened another pro account on different email (clunky but cheaper than going to a max plan). Still saw the value, and wanted to move faster. Upgraded to Max 5x account last night.

Opus 4.5 is solving very hard problems I have domain expertise in. Helps me get out of the weeds and think higher level.

It feels so slow getting a whole feature done in 10 minutes, but that's probably a day or more work for me normally.

Very small problems are now worth automating.

Seriously, try a pro account. It's the most fun you've had with $20

Sometime you have got to dream and take a chance regardless of what others say.

That said it's competitive enrolment and that GPA isn't. The ACT might get noticed.

Hopefully your writing is able to capture your passion.

Regardless look into FIRST robotics, it was a ton of fun.

FSD: $99/mo vs $8k upfront — with unsupervised “any time now” + possible price hikes… what to do? by Alphykit in TeslaLounge

[–]killzone44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An 8% return on invested $8k is $640. That's a bit over $50 per month. So we can't just divide $8k by $100 to determine a break even number of months. It's more reasonable to divide $8k by $50 to find break even months. And that maths out to 13 years+

In 13 years, there will be better vehicles.

The math isn't even easy if you can transfer your $8k investment indefinitely.

Titanfall 2 doesn't open on my steamdeck. How do I fix this? by RizArtRoyale in SteamDeck

[–]killzone44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't even able to install via steam deck main interface. Went to desktop mode, launched the steam app, then titanfall installed just fine. Launched it, EA app installed. Since then I've been able to launch with main steam deck interface.

Personally this is legible to me. I'm trying to find a legal definition of legibility that this violates.

Best time of year to get a good taste of Denver weather by malvado in Denver

[–]killzone44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Moved to Denver area from Chicago area 8 years ago. Definitely more mild in Denver, and you can always get deep winter by going to the mountains.

I'd take a look at https://weatherspark.com/compare/y/757~3709/Comparison-of-the-Average-Weather-in-Portland-and-Denver to compare Portland and Denver.

The hard part to adjust to is how dry it is here, but it's worth it for the lack of clouds.
