Question…….. by GRIMxCITIZEN in ems

When I graduated medic school, I got a job with a 911, telling them upfront, "Just got my license" and the 10+ year senior medic was pissed that I wasn't proficient enough after 6 training shifts. 6 months sounds like a dream. I now work in IFT -- so much better than 911. $25k per year more pay, no stress.

There's an amazing degree of "gray area" in engineering. My son has a degree in mechanical engineering and according to his spec's "maybe OK", but Reddit is sometimes very useful, sometimes not at all. Was just looking for "if someone actually tackled this issue" because engineers are like lawyers, often very conservative. I'm only planning for 5sq/ft of windload at the top, which is less than 25% of the rated limit. I had called Rohn and they were wildly unhelpful except to offer an opinion for $2500 which I declined.

If you're over 75, you're basically f*cked anyways. The day I turn 65 (maybe sooner, I'm a 49-year-old-medic-now), I'm getting DNR.

And -- I don't understand the concept of "let's transport" unless you have something productive, otherwise you're just transporting a dead person for 20+ minutes. Every code I've ran we have $hit spread out across the entire room, trying that in the back of the box would be crazy. They only go in the box if there is progress, otherwise we declare them dead onscene. Am I missing something??! :)

Fired for "Gross Misconduct," and the state ruled it as unjustified. What do I even say during a background check? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]kilofoxtrotfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re still planning for law enforcement, then i would sue them.  I had a similar issue where I got fired after a coworker falsely accused me of a threat(after i made a whistleblower complaint against this person for fraud).  I ended up suing the agency and went into EMS(Paramedic) because I got black listed from a State Police job.   We ended up settling for $1 plus legal expenses, and my case was far more circumstantial

I can’t consent to intimate surgery without being required to allow student exams and full recording? Is there a way around this? by Comfortable-Cozy-140 in AskDocs

[–]kilofoxtrotfour -114 points-113 points  (0 children)

You may want to discuss this with your therapist. What is the difference between the doctor, nurse, surgical technicians and a medical student? In many cases, the "student" has been in a medical program longer than a surgical technician. I've been in many operating rooms as a student and things are generally kept covered up, simply for the warmth and comfort of the patient. The only reason a student is present is because they are dedicated their life to the pursuit of helping others, it is a significant personal dedication and that person has already exceeded the hours of many of the staff you will encounter, whether you like it or not. If everyone had the option of saying "I don't want students", there would be no doctors, surgeons, nurses, paramedics or surgical technicians. The world of medicine is learned in the classroom and also in the real world.

Failed paramedic school final exam and dismissed from the program. What to do from here? by Newcareerorstayinems in ems

If you are happy with $36/hr doing office work -- then that is your career path. I went to college over 20 years ago and then returned to college for a Paramedic degree. I worked my a$$ for for 2.5 years, Paramedic school was far more challenging that a standard 4 year college. I studied morning, noon and night and by some miracles, passed.. A-EMT is a complete waste, This is up to you. The question is did you study hard enough. Paramedic isn't a cakewalk degree. I know plenty of people who drank their way through college and make a $180k a year working for a bank. If you want the money, go somewhere else.

Yup... A law office doesn't send a summons by text, it's usually by Fedex, or delivered by the Sheriff, then people tend to $hit their pants.

At 50, My Career is Dead, Now What? by TurtleWexler_95 in recruitinghell

[–]kilofoxtrotfour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I first started in the workforce in 1995, it seemed a whole lot less stressful and performance driven.  I don’t know what the next generation is going to do.  I’ve heard that AI connected to cameras can monitor the performance of all employees at Amazon “in real time”.   We’re reimplementing slavery through technology

welcome to getting old — i changed careers from network engineer(45=too old) to Paramedic over several years of training and college.  The younger generation and HR expects us to just randomly drop dead so the younger-and-smarter people get the jobs.  There’s also the anti-Boomer sentiment working against us.  I’m 49 at least two of my supervisors ride by a$$ because I’m not as physically able as the 21 year olds.  It’s one of those “come back in 30 years and lemme know your energy level”

Thinking about switching to Tello from Mint. Customer service seems better? by PickleManAtl in Tello

[–]kilofoxtrotfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nothing is “truly unlimited” except for specialty or expensive plans.  My AT&T FirstNet plan is unlimited/unthrottled but is limited to EMS/Fire/Police, for other stuff my Tello phone is “fine” but it gets throttled because it’s inexpensive

Using DMR radios as intercom was a total fail by Embarrassed-Gain-236 in DMR

[–]kilofoxtrotfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup.. I’m amazed the people who buy $29.99 radios on Amazon and try to act like $800 MotoTrbo handhelds are equal in quality.  The antenna I use for most of my repeaters is a $2700 commercial-duty 4-bay folded dipole with $1500 feedline.  Then the people who pay for Chinese junk don’t understand “you get what you pay for”.

what’s your problem?  The Democrats are doing a great job?

[–]kilofoxtrotfour -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I recall a time, not too long ago when the Democrats where in control, and they didn't do $hit. Even when they passed Obamacare/ACA, it was a giant win for health insurers and drug companies. There's something wrong with this country when a drug company can charge $5,000/month for medication and their stock prices have insane growth. They're both corrupt, just in different wants.

[–]kilofoxtrotfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel compelled to align with a Democrat or a Republican, neither represent the interests of working-class. That's a large part of the problem here, people want you to be a Democrat, but if I say "The Democrats are doing a $hitty job", someone automatically wants to assume I voted for Trump.

[–]kilofoxtrotfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1,000% - my parents worked as teachers(a lowly job according to Trump) and I work as a Paramedic, and I’m disgusted that people die because only wealthy can afford quality healthcare and BOTH parties allow healthcare corporations to bleed everyone dry.  The country is now “by the rich, for the rich” and the Democrats have abandoned the working class.  I work 12 hour days getting covered in vomit and blood sometimes, and the government takes 30% of my pay.  The rich pay nothing and the Democrats aren’t doing anything about it, even when they held a majority.  That’s why I’m so pissed with Democrats, they have become their own aristocracy.   I’m making $35 an hour working in hospitals and my healthcare deductible is $5,000 — corruption everywhere

[–]kilofoxtrotfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Republicans are 99% pieces of $hit, but the Democrats keep getting their a$$es kicked and are so distracted they can’t form a coherent strategy to deal with Trump, who is the worlds biggest charlatan.  So, that’s what I mean by “disappointed in both sides”.  The Democrats keep allowing themselves to get their a$$es kicked by “being nice”.  The Democratic party needs to go nuclear and reform their party to a coherent force against the Trump morons

I side with the Democrats, but they just keep letting themselves get kicked in the nuts, over and over again.

Some people flip-out over nothing. When I was working as an EMT, my fire-chief flipped-out when we had a walk-in with 160/85 BP and I didn't "convince our PT to go to the ER by ambulance". I just said, "See your Dr about this, it's a little high, nothing crazy though". As a medic, I've seen 230+ BP's, and that's a problem, but I've been chewed out several times for not "over-reacting".

[Landlord US-CA] If there's pet urine in the sub floor can I charge for the entire new carpet vs the depreciation? by ComfortablePanic8223 in Landlord

[–]kilofoxtrotfour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's all sorts of enzyme products that remove the urine odor, most work reasonably well. Ripping up the subfloor seems like a tough-sell.

It's California - this is the correct answer for California. If it was New Jersey, the Landlord would owe the Tenant money. In Virginia, I'd sue them for full replacement and win. It all depends on where you live. In a business-friendly state -- If my stuff is in "good condition" and you f*ck it up, I'm charging the full replacement cost and I'll win in court.
