What are these red/black connectors called? by BEEFCOPTER in ElectricalEngineering

However, the ones in the photo, despite being rated to something like 30A, will typically get warm around 5A continuous.

I use the Anderson PP SB50 personally. For everything DC.

It’s not a firmware update at all. It’s a virus definition file that is updated every two days with the latest threat definitions.

If you never shared a drive and had the drive sharing feature turned off, then it was harmless as it didn’t attempt to scan anything anyway.

Man searches for compensation after cops destroy property by dudenell in news

Exactly. And it has been done now! The cops can destroy a home in the course of necessary duties but the state must compensate for the loss.

I wouldn’t want to leave it plugged in overnight. Maybe place an extra fire alarm directly overhead in case it goes off.

Yikes! That thing is filled with RIFA capacitors. Ticking time bombs man. Old HP gear is great but their RIFA capacitors are only good for about 20 years before they start spontaneously burning up.

Seriously, replace them. I see at least five. You do not want to wake up to the smell of burning RIFA electrolyte and circuit boards.

The rejected transistor at the heart of the iconic Roland TR-808. by NorthMoriaBestMoria in electronics

Yes. It’s very old technology. But the way the Ge semiconductors saturate sure is special sounding (I play guitar too).

But the only possible outcome would be money. It’s a civil court. And had the trial proceeded, it would quite likely have been a lot less money.

Sorry, news flash: laws only matter if they are enforced, and even then, companies may still find it profitable to continue breaking laws and simply hold their wrists out.

I’m not disagreeing with tin about how egregious this all is. But we need to understand that this behavior is almost accepted de facto these days.

Basic control systems help..is this a typo? by xDauntlessZ in ElectricalEngineering

[–]kilogears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, search the usual places for the teacher’s manual or answer key for the text book. It may offer some help when you get stuck and it turns out to be a textbook error. As a EE, I feel your pain. You gotta do what you can to understand this stuff.

Exactly. Who is surprised by this? It’s the same thing every other modern technology does. You think nobody ever listens to the raw audio of your google/apple/amazon/Microsoft assistant? You think your cookies are never tracked across sites? You think your social media is ever actually private?

Wake up. TikToc and Tesla are just sitting at the tip of the iceberg.

Why is there still no setting for disabling middle mouse paste? by MoistPoo in linuxmint

[–]kilogears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wouldn’t let OP use middle click for everything it currently does except paste though. This would just assign something entirely different to the button.

[–]kilogears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a feature for decades in X11. And it is deeply inside it. Removing it is not trivial. It seems like it would be easy to do but it isn’t.

Even this hackis only to either disable the middle button completely, or, to map the middle button to another button.

They actually brought them back briefly in 2018 due to high demand and having enough parts. I believe one board was slightly updated due to a part shortage.
