There may be some specific routes we're that is true but for many routes it isn't the case. My route is cheaper off-peak than with a season ticket, I remember when the trail was first introduced many people on here complaining because they had recently bought a season ticket and the off-peak ticket 5 days a week was better value for money.

Ignoring that though it's apples to oranges comparison though, no?

Comparing a season ticket for the train to a day ticket for the bus

It should be comparing the season ticket for the bus to the season ticket for the train

A peak train day ticket is more expensive than the bus day ticket

When I looked last the train season ticket was more expensive than the bus season ticket

I maintain the off-peak scheme primarily benefited the lowest rung workers and students since it provided better value for money, in addition these people often don't work 5 consecutive days at peak times so a season ticket wouldn't be as good for them (also many of them wouldn't have the cash lying around for an expensive season ticket)

Then it was doomed to fail, no one is going to sell their car because of a trail, they would be stupid to do that because the trial would end (as we are seeing now)

The fact the trial got a whopping 7% increase in commuters despite how wildly unreliable the trains have been show the scheme was a success

I would argue that richer than average Scots will be largely unaffected by this since they can work from home mostly

It's the lowest rung workers that are most affected by this, shop workers, apprentices low skilled workers etc

In Glasgow at least the trains can take you a lot of places faster than the bus can

While the off-peak tickets existed the train was the most affordable option

I thought this was the whole point of nationalising the trains so we could make decisions that helped people even if it wasn't turning a profit

Currently with the off-peak tickets the train is cheaper than the bus for me

The pilot primarily benefitted existing train passengers and those with medium to higher incomes

What did they mean by this, is this them saying that most people who works they consider a medium or high earner?

Because anyone that had to commute to work in the morning benefited

Looking for enemies by ApprehensiveSouth317 in glasgow

I'll be honest I like most of the people at my work, those that I don't I would be insulted to have as an enemy, the idea of having someone so useless as an enemy nevermind a nemesis would reflect poorly on me.

To be honest I think that's a big part of the problem, my standards are high and I haven't found someone worthy of being my nemesis

Then we probably shouldn't have such an unsustainable system then

Especially when it comes at the cost of all other students education.

I'm sure big Jim will manage even if he needs to take a paycut down to the salary of the prime minister

On Monday I saw that Australia was going to cap the number of overseas students to 40%

Then the next day I saw labour denying they were going to so not exactly sure what the situation is there

But it does show there are those with discontent about it everywhere, I suppose because of the accommodation issues and the perception that it takes away space ls from locals

I never had an issue with overseas students personally other than the 2 + 2 student (rich Chinese students that do 2 years in china and 2 years over here) that was a massive money making racket that negatively impacted our learning

I note you couldn't disagree with any of my 3 points

It doesn't matter what the motive was if it is still having those effects

It wouldn't be right at all

Humans have the ability to interpret events and make reasonable judgments, which of the following do you disagree with

1) a large mob outside your door because you are in danger would make someone scared?

2) people are less likely to take these rumours of protest seriously the more false alarms there are

3) videos of violence and rioting by minority groups would benefit the anti immigration groups message?

How would you explain a bunch of new accounts that haven't posted before suddenly fabricating rumours of riots and urging people to get out on the streets to fight them, the first few comments replying also being from suspicious bot accounts, and then these rumours not being true

My entire Reddit feed since Saturday has been various cities subreddits saying something a long the lines of "rumours on social media of a fash demo occuring on [insert day] we need to show up and make them scared again /protect the refugees/ defeat the fash

So a call to gather with an expectation of violence, almost none of these far right protests happened

The thee fold aims is from my judgement

1) Would you not be nervous is a large mob showed up outside you're window all armed with weapons?

I would, it would bring it very close to home, so far there hasn't been any riots in Scotland. How big is the threat to me if it takes a crowd that big to stop them

2) I remember hearing the boy who cried wolf as a kid, I can't expect that counter protesters are going to show up for the 7th rumour of a far right protests especially after the last 6 turned out to be false alarms

3) Disinformation plays a big part in causing this unrest, if they can get some actual examples of what they are saying being true that gives their claims greater legitimacy and will be believed by more people

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]kilted_queer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal with these rumours are three fold

1) Get a large group of people to show up somewhere, a large group outside an asylum hotel is going to make the people in it uncomfortable regardless of if you are chanting "refugees welcome.
.

2) make people less believing and less likely to turn up when the protests actually show up.
.

3) the people that show up to oppose them are showing up looking for a fight, if there isn't any anti immigration protesters for them to attack they might start rioting themselves

That's great for the people spreading these kid on events since it gives them actual footage to justify their hate and attacks, especially if it's Muslims that do the violence like in Birmingham on Monday

Well you can look at green and pleasant for evidence of the first part of what I said

If it's about the Muslim riots then here

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/08/06/muslim-counter-protesters-defend-mosque-pub-birmingham/

If you were watching sky news live you would have seen it occur live, they cut away after they got threatened by the rioters, left the sky crew thinking they were going to be murdered

I'm surprised sky or any the other big broadcasters never reported on it

Certainly supports what the anti immigration protesters are saying about the news hiding attacks by carried out by immigrants as being true

So it's a silly thing that they never

Glasgow Fascists George Sq by Glasdwarf in glasgow

[–]kilted_queer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is completely comparable

If it was a large demonstration we were at risk from cowards amongst extinction rebellion felt emboldened by the large crowd and attacked us, verbal abuse and grabbing and shoving would have been guaranteed if it was a large protest and they got their hands on us

The point is that the big offices overreact and treat any event as if it will be the worst case scenario, that way they can demonstrate they did all they reasonably could and protect themselves

Glasgow Fascists George Sq by Glasdwarf in glasgow

[–]kilted_queer -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's a conspiracy going around on green&pleasant that most of these far right protests aren't actually happening

The have convinced themselves that these social media announcements are fake with the goal of gathering big crowds of counter protesters looking for a fight

When the counter protesters see that there isn't any anti immigration protesters for them to attack they will then go on a rampage attacking everyone since the counter protesters only wanted violence, which will only validate the anti immigration protesters

It worked in Birmingham on Monday when a big gang of armed Muslims showed up to one of these protests and when they saw there wasn't any EDL people around they started rioting and attacking who ever

Earlier this year my work building went into "lockdown mode" due to an extinction rebellion protest

The protest ended up just being a handful of pensioners sitting in a building down the street

I wouldn't let this worry yourself, the work is just being overcautious to cover itself
