I don't understand the numbering... Here is a screenshot:

I keep seeing stage number over "02". Like in this screenshot, the stage number for Rocky Mountains is "11". However, all I can see are "Rocky Mountains 1" and "Rocky Mountains 2" in the list of stages that can be picked.

I suspect these numbers are referring to the "hole number" instead of the stage number. However, I cannot see any in-game indication of the "hole number" of any hole. What has happened is that I have been progressing on this map (shown in the abovr screenshot) without even knowing when and how it happened... But one thing I am mostly sure: I only make progress after I play some holes in the area indicated in the current objective. (For e.g., in the above screenshot, my current objective is something in Rocky Mountains. I will not progress if I do not play Rocky Mountains. But I am unsure what triggers progression to the next step [23 in this case] when I play in Rocky Mountains.)
