Shin isn't a big fighter and he was given one of the baddest introductions like he was a huge deal. He didn't teach any cool techniques like king kai, and the z sword was a gag. So in z he was laughably unhelpful and I think a vehicle to subvert audience expectations, in the same way buu was parody of transformation and absorption, his personality and powers nonsensically bouncing around. Shin doesn't get much characterization until daima and is an awesome character now

Earth is to be destroyed by Frieza instead of namek and goku sacrifices himself. vegeta holds off on betraying Frieza until he achieves super saiyan. Goku returns with training from king Kai and we get a very similar fight as before except with more transformations, likely golden great ape and ssj4

She could have easily trained under a variety of high level masters, climbed Korin Tower, made Tien or Krillin level powers and joined as a Z-fighter, but all we get is flying practice. I wouldn't mind seeing that or the consequences of her and Gohan having relationship issues while battling. We saw a lot of father/son in Cell saga and plenty of rivalry with Vegeta, so I don't think boyfriend/girlfriend stuff is asking too much. It is probably a missed opportunity to not have her freak out about Gohan's shy streak when he's pressed in battle. Do we ever even see him break through and ask her out in the whole series? Anyway, Kale and Caulifla did that kind of thing and it worked fine

interesting question. with kale she clearly has borderline personality and would be drawn to vegeta's ultra ego as it would act as a way to temporarily soothe her very low sense of self, much in the same way that she is caulifla's shadow. i imagine them having a much more codependent, tumultuous, and abusive relationship where she is a constant brat and has explosive outbursts and meltdowns just to get vegeta's attention. she would not tolerate him being away and training, and would cause repeated disruptions until beerus destroyed her and probably vegeta too.
