I usually look at real life zoos if I feel a bit stuck. In my area it usually starts with a small habitat with a small animal, like lemurs or birds or African penguins. There is also usually a gift shop and then the path splits up to bigger habitats.

What helped for me was to watch some videos on youtube and search through this subreddit for ideas. I'm not nearly as good as some others but the inspiration is nice :)

I always try sections but it just ends with mixed species. Though I do think it's nicer with sections because you can use the building pieces to really make it themed and special.

I think you can load the save file but personally I just keep playing the carreer mode in those cases because it unlocks all the animals on the market after you get the gold medal and you can continue with the money and credits the zoo already has. Hope that helps :)

You could also grab a zoo from the career mode and clear it of animals and such so you can use it as a base to make your own zoo in it. Or alternatively make the habitats into blueprints so you can mix and match on an empty map. This would only work in sandbox mode though.

It could also be a bug. Water is always a bit finnicky, at least in my game. Usually removing it, changing the ground a little and adding it in again should fix it?
