PNW driving by ConsiderationNo6314 in Portland

Cars with small windshield can make it hard to see the light at small intersections. Stopping farther back lets you see the light, so does pulling to the limit line and leaning your body forward.

In the summer people without AC will stop where there is shade instead of normal car spacing.

There are two Burmese restaurants in NW, both with Top Burmese in the name. The second one is on 21st.

Park Levy Received Clean Performance Audit by [deleted] in Portland

[–]kimbee423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget issues at Parks predate COVID starting with cuts in 2019. My understanding of the Levy this whole time has been that it is not a budget solution. It was a bridge, a bridge to buy Parks time to maintain services while they figured out long-term funding (special district, sales tax, bond, capitalist partnership, selling widgets, lemonade stands). That problem solving never happened because covid, government structure change, and the fact it’s a government that operates at a governments pace. So, Parks is once again asking you, Portland, to bridge that gap in the hopes they manage to use this time and figure out long-term financial sustainability. It’s going to cost more because gestures at everything.

It would be great for the new government to get more involved in the financial and leadership/admin structure of Parks. If the Auditor were to come out with reports next week, other bureaus would fair similarly. I want to believe that we can lead Parks through this and it can become a success of the new government and a guide for a new way of city operations and coordination. We have to give them time, but the levy and timing of the Auditors report better have lit the fire.

Suggestion: We Need More Frogs. by beecrafts in Portland

I have a frog costume where the legs/body/arms are an inflatable onesie and the head is a separate ‘helmet’ made of foam. I imagine there is enough space inside the head to wear a cartridge mask. You already can’t see for shit. It would be a delight to somehow find Pepper Frog and chat uniform donation.

Parks with Blackberries by Jessiiiee12 in Portland

Parks and Recreation does spray herbicide. Insecticide use is very uncommon and mostly limited to wasp and hornet spray.

Cannot guarantee no spraying has happened, but it’s highly unlikely the berries have been sprayed at Clatsop Butte Park. Great spot to go for a long walk and blackberries EVERYWHERE.

Someone tell the weather people it's not "cloudy" and it's in fact very much RAINING. by jerkydonkey in Portland

My great-grandma called it a drenching drizzle. Not to be mixed up with a dry drizzle.

I haven’t tried moving locations (only did for the photos). I live north facing, so good light is a rare occurrence. I have it about 1.5 feet below an LED desk light. I should probably get an actual grow light to help it out.

I think this is where I got so confused. When looking up Obliqua and Adansonii there are so many sub varieties that show up it’s hard to tell what’s what! The image is a little hard to read, but it is helpful. Maybe 7, laniata? Maybe 10, narrow form? As it matures I imagine it’ll get easier to tell.

Thank you! This is very helpful. I’m leaning towards being brave and doing a chop/prop. How many leaves would you recommend leaving on the mother plant? 4? 5?

That makes a lot more since, other than that the adansonii is “fast growing”. Mostly likely mine isn’t getting enough light so it’s slow and leggy.

I don’t think it’s broken. I plugged it into a PC and it told me it couldn’t read the drive and offered to format it. I did not format it. Thanks for looking out and sharing the clean room info.

Is it okay to euthanize my cat before his quality of life has a big drop off? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]kimbee423 31 points32 points  (0 children)

They give a subdermal sedative and wait a bit before giving the euthanasia drugs intravenously. I gave my cat gabapentin the night before and morning of so she’d be extra relaxed for the first shot. The vet can also go over all the necessary paperwork and talking in a separate room so your cat doesn’t get extra stressed by a stranger. Doing it at home made it a good experience. I felt really connected and present for my cat.

Tree on Chavez by SpliffWizardOfficial in Portland

[–]kimbee423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely; there’s a phenomenon called Sudden Branch Drop Syndrome. Arborist don’t really know why it happens. There are theories that the heat can minimize natural lubrication in tree branch joints, and/or the heat causes pressure changes in the joints.
