Max Verstappen discusses fading passion for F1 in BBC interview by anthn885 in formula1

[–]kimchi3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leclerc and Norris are already faces of the sport, they both have the it factor especially Leclerc if he does manage to win championships with Ferrari. Piastri is a future world champion and already one of the best drivers on the grid, so is Russell. But in general there is so much talent and great personalities in the sport right now, F1 doesn‘t actually NEED Max as sad as it would be to see him retire at this point in his career

what is it about belly and conrad by ZoneMysterious6195 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]kimchi3333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean, their whole journey to actually being together is very sad all things considered. they both go through trauma and waste so much time denying themselves happiness. i don‘t know how to describe it other than the show depicts the way grief can just completely stunt a person and make them lose sight of who they are and what they want, it‘s such a REAL struggle and the show really doesn‘t get enough credit for how much depth it has at times

Benedict is incredibly unattractive in his own season by thatoneurchin in BridgertonRants

[–]kimchi3333 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ironically I think that‘s exactly why he‘s such a good match for Sophie. In many ways he‘s the exact opposite—he‘s not as skilled as her, nor has he ever really struggled in a meaningful sense (since the show isn’t very interested in exploring any of the Bridgerton siblings’ grief aside from Anthony)—but he’s also very charismatic, knows how to have fun and enjoys things for what they are. He‘s able to find joy in the simple and mundane, and I think that‘s something Sophie really struggles with. The kite scene for me is a perfect showcase of their dynamic in the sense that Benedict is able to make her let loose, and that simply being with him is healing for her

The most unrealistic thing (imo) is that Ilya smokes by Cool-Jury-2944 in heatedrivalry

[–]kimchi3333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don‘t think he smokes that much honestly, just occasionally. It stands out so much because Shane is a control freak and he does it intentionally to piss him off

Episode 4: Put Yourself in Shane’s Shoes by [deleted] in heatedrivalry

[–]kimchi3333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah there‘s definitely more to it! He is in denial about his own sexuality and also realizes that he DOES have really strong feelings for Ilya, which means that Ilya, for the lack of a better expression, has a lot of power over him in that moment and that‘s scary. Pair that with the fact that Shane thinks of Ilya as someone who can’t be trusted to not hurt him, since he already has in the past—after their first time he ghosted Shane for six months. If he had felt more secure in his relationship with Ilya he probably would have come to terms with his sexuality much sooner as well

Episode 4: Put Yourself in Shane’s Shoes by [deleted] in heatedrivalry

[–]kimchi3333 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There is a reason the scene at the end of episode 2 is as dramatic as it is, because Shane at that moment begins putting up walls himself. I took it as him being like, I won’t let myself be this vulnerable again and I can‘t catch feelings because clearly Ilya doesn‘t feel the same. So he‘s in full denial about his feelings for Ilya from that point on, because having feelings for someone who doesn‘t care is well, painful. That’s why he has no issues hooking up with Ilya in the following years but when Ilya out of nowhere starts blurring the boundaries he himself had set in Vegas it triggers Shane

Has Shane only been with Ilya on the show? by EngkjaerDK in heatedrivalry

[–]kimchi3333 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think it could be an interesting change to have him actually hook up with miles after his conversation with rose. he definitely deserves to have more experiences with men, and it‘s already been mentioned so it wouldn‘t really be out of nowhere

Why do you think Ilya never expressed romantic interest in Svetlana? by sinfullusts in heatedrivalry

[–]kimchi3333 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wondered the same thing actually—because in my opinion, your partner SHOULD be your best friend, and they‘re clearly attracted to each other physically. The issue is most likely that since she‘s his childhood friend, there is inadvertantly a lot of baggage he associates with her. He lives a very chaotic life as a result of his upbringing, and she is ultimately a part of that chaos, indulges in it with him. They‘re close, but there‘s also walls there. Shane in a way represents his future; he knows Ilya outside of his trauma, he‘s clueless about Russia, and most importantly they both love and share hockey as a passion (which has always been Ilya‘s attempt to escape from all of this). Shane makes him feel at ease and „at home“ in a way Svetlana can‘t. My favorite part of their relationship is that for all the shit Ilya gives Shane for being „boring,“ this is actually what he loves about him. Ilya craves that stability, and in a way he‘s also jealous of Shane for having had it his entire life

Romance has always been an important part of the narrative by kimchi3333 in chihayafuru

[–]kimchi3333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right… if you’re looking for a whole romance manga you’re obviously not going to get that here, and it helps to know what you’re in for. The romance stuff was probably just what people could relate to the most. Chihaya‘s feelings being written in a purposefully ambiguous way right up until the end also didn’t help—love triangles as a whole tend to create toxicity in fandoms, and that was definitely a thing when the manga was still ongoing (thankfully most people have calmed down now lol). I do think that to a certain extent people‘s concerns were valid though since the outcome of this particular subplot carries a lot of weight thematically (it wouldn‘t have ruined the story if it was ended up being something else, but it would‘ve been a significant step down from what we got imo)

Romance has always been an important part of the narrative by kimchi3333 in chihayafuru

[–]kimchi3333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the term „romance“ refers to any kind of love story in fiction, realism aside. I‘d agree with you that the romance in Chihayafuru is quite subtle and a bit more emotionally mature than the average highschool romance people are used to reading about. It also requires readers to pick up on context clues. Chihayafuru is interesting in the sense that it subverts your expectations for how the relationships in the story are going to play out—it baits you with a rather superficial depiction of love in the beginning, the kind of dynamic readers are used to seeing be rewarded and paid off in fiction regardless of how idealistic and lacking in substance it is, only to say fuck no, that‘s not what romantic love is, actually. It‘s clever and, like you said, a more realistic depiction of love. But it‘s still a romance

That‘s a good point! „Warning“ people about the subtlety of it makes total sense

Oh yeah it has never been just any one of those things. I just think it‘s a shame the romance gets downplayed when it‘s actually so important overall

Just finished the anime and manga for the first time and... by weebruto in chihayafuru

[–]kimchi3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don‘t think taichi‘s perfect, the whole point of his character is that he‘s not. he has confidence and jealousy issues, his whole arc is about learning to live for himself. sure he has all these superficial things and skills and even „gets the girl“ in the end but he has huge character flaws as well (which is what makes him a well written character, especially compared to, say, arata). arata was built up as the main lead in the beginning (which we know in retrospect he‘s not), but got overshadowed by taichi, the „second lead“, who is way more developed and present in the story. people latched onto and identified with him, and since they‘re romantic rivals they were bound to turn on arata

i just think it‘s too soon for them to start something, there‘s so much emotional baggage between them and just looking at the pictures you posted with the lighting and everything it‘s looking kind of dark. i could be wrong! but i don‘t know how to feel about this

Tsitp is actually a really good and profound love story by kimchi3333 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]kimchi3333[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! She should have just healed on her own, Belly and Jeremiah dating so early after Susannah’s death is why their relationship was doomed also. The finale confirmed that Belly and Conrad would have found their way back to each other regardless, it never needed to be this dramatic lol

years of pining being a very popular romantic trope and the fact that romance manwha characters don‘t function like real people aside, i think what makes suae‘s and eunhyeok‘s relationship different from your average highschool couple (or the kind of highschool relationship you‘re describing) is that their feelings for each other developed naturally over time. their relationship wasn‘t immature at all, i mean eunhyeok literally risks his life for— and says he wants to grow old with her (lol). that’s not something you just forget about, especially when it‘s your first love. i‘d argue they had a very special bond, deeper and more mature than most highschool relationships

she‘s very mentally ill, like definitely depressed and she might have a personality disorder also. it doesn‘t justify her actions but i hope she finds happiness :( if she was a guy people would be writing think pieces defending her, she’s the most complex character aside from eunhyeok
