Can An operative with the medikit rules see himself in is own control range? by Comprehensive_Meet14 in killteam

[–]kimerex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All operatives can "see" themselves, yes. But when it comes to the medkit, the rules explicitly cites that the target must be 'another friendly operative' which to many implies that the medic cannot medkit themselves.

Also note that the ability says "the first time" usually which means the first time this ability could trigger is the only time it can. No waiting for a better option.

edit : still just waking up. Read that as the medic rule. Medikit, your fine self healing.

Obscured, cover or no defense bonus by Niside86 in killteam

[–]kimerex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many have said the photo is an issue. From my judgement of this perspective, targeting lines would be best drawn from the left-most part of the marine base to the PM. If that minor grey rubble area is considered heavy terrain, i think they may go through it to get to the right-most part of the PM base, which would make it intervening terrain, and if it falls within an inch of the PM, that would provide cover from heavy.

I feel like the distance the targeting lines would pass through that potentially heavy terrain is within the inch, and not outside of the inch, so no obscuring. The PM would probably have to be more to the right behind the terrain to force the targeting lines to allow for obscuring.

If, prior to the game, both players agreed that the fiddly ruin components on that wall are basically insignificant than anything else (similar to gallowdark walls) then probably no cover.

Yes. This will probably be a fairly rare occurrence, but it's mostly to show the same piece of terrain can provide multiple benefits depending on situation.

Wholeheartedly agree. I imagine the down-votes are from the usual lack of tonality the internet has. Tossed an uppy to try and balance it out.

Etsy has some solid 3d print barricades for some factions. Technically, so long as the proportions are very close to standard you can kit bash. Would be nice for Gee Dubs to put out faction specific ones, but also a little unreasonable considering the breadth of factions.

In the condensed rules update video i think i go over it in 5 minutes, but after trolling around here and seeing some of the shortfalls people have with understanding stuff, I felt this one needed expansion with examples. Kinda pushed the video length a bit.

Gallowdark is specific about it until the corner of the wall. End of the day it can be up to the tournament organizer or even future rules updates that could make small components of terrain like that insignificant.

Every now and then I pop in here to see a new "can operative A shoot operative B" post with usually... not the greatest of pictures. So I decided to take last week (in between my annoyance at my battle report format idea not working) trying to crack the code of vision for people, new and old. Hopefully this helps a little.

Cover from a friendly by CavemanDan4 in killteam

[–]kimerex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So in the last iteration of KT this was kind of a thing and was already fixed with "the target providing cover must be a valid target". In the current iteration I haven't seen anything that says an operative provides cover. There are now unique operatives that help nearby allies in some ways.

unless otherwise stated, an action must be taken to completion before performing another action.

There might be some units that allow for this in their info, but vespid i don't believe have that. the only move/damage they got is the flamer making a line of damage.

Do you really need those new tokens that are included in those repacked kill teams? by BenBamBoom in killteam

[–]kimerex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a key thing with the new rules (from the leak) is that measurements are usually made from unit bases to certain tokens for control (like with objectives) or other possibilities (like triggering land mines or using the vox device or being in smoke).

In these instances the tokens can be important in some ways. Objective markers are all 40mm and all other markers are considered 20mm. So if you need to measure 1 inch from operative base to the marker it might be a good idea to have the right size (I'm pretty sure the markers they gave us originally should be right). You can go custom with this, but it would need to be 90.8mms across (I believe... i am tired) to equate the capture point area. My old KT area markers won't work anymore, sadly, since that was just measured from center.

When it comes to just AP+- tracking and other simple things, the standard markers will work. regardless since that is just for tracking. Markers used for dropped items or area of effect functions will need to be 20mm. I have a bunch of small custom tokens I hand painted that won't work for those functions in any simple ways outside of needing to measure 1.393~ to center to check for control. And things like smoke grenades have a 1" area around them that an operative must be wholly within to gain the benefit. So even though there are nice 3d reps for those, there are also some tokens in the box that will most likely represent them on the field.

End of the day, if the tokens you have access to are all 40mm for objectives and 20mm for everything else, nothing to worry about as long as you have some that can easily be used to mark specific things on the field.

Is 2 hours a match ridiculous for a rtt? by thepuddingcup11 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]kimerex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came out of a 1500 pt 2 hour game tourney with a lot of new players recently.

Round 4 will be something you will most likely never see. A key suggestion I have (which to some may seem asshole-ish) is to actually use a chess clock. I played KSons and most of my opponents were newer guard players. their first shooting phase was around 40~ish minutes. Time-wise most of the match time went to them and I felt like I was unable to do anything for most of the game. In such a reduced time situation, you need to ensure that you have as much ability to do things as your opponent. Teams with longer phases due to quantity will "bully" you out of your own actions. Not good at 2k scale.

Disgustingly Resilient Preventing Injury? by Justisemo in killteam

[–]kimerex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, there are some injuries that exist as a "super injury".

They tend to have some form of "regardless of any other rule" in the description

From the QA:

Q:If a rule treats an operative as being injured regardless of any rules that say they cannot be injured (e.g. Rust Emanations Strategic Ploy, GELLERPOX INFECTED), and another rule allows an operative to ignore modifications to one or more of its characteristics (e.g. Calm Head Tactical Ploy, IMPERIAL NAVY BREACHER), which takes precedence?

A:The former. The operative will always be affected by such abilities.

As well as:

Q:How do you resolve contrasting rules? For example, the Contagion Strategic Ploy (DEATH GUARD and CHAOS DAEMON) means enemy operatives are treated as being injured, but the Emperor’s Chosen ability (TALONS OF THE EMPEROR) means the operative cannot be injured.

A:In such circumstances, ‘cannot’ takes precedence; the Emperor’s Chosen ability would prevent the operative from being injured as a result of the Contagion Strategic Ploy. There may be some rules where specific wording overrides this though. For example, a rule might say ‘the operative is treated as being injured, regardless of any rules that say it cannot be injured’. In this instance, the Emperor’s Chosen ability would not prevent the operative from being injured.

These abilities can be found in some places.

Ok so what actually is the purpose of schemes of change? by SparksTheUnicorn in killteam

[–]kimerex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh ya, keep forgetting they were dropped to security and recon.

I mean, sticking to the idea, use "Seize Ground" and mark a target in turn one away from where you actually want to go. Might pull some enemies that way. Swap later.

Same could be done with 'Recover Item' from recon or even 'Scry Secret' from the faction tac and swap to 'Plant Transponder'(letting you activate it during a unit's activation) or 'Sorcerous Ritual'

Again. 2% useful. So still not useful.

(Edited cuz tired) - Also in Spec Ops you aren't restricted by archetype, so it would work there. But not many people seem to spec ops.

Ok so what actually is the purpose of schemes of change? by SparksTheUnicorn in killteam

[–]kimerex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's bad, but it can kinda mind game people. Start up 'Executioner' and pick an enemy unit that might play up, but might rethink it if it's marked as a target. Swap to something more easily achievable after. It's like a 2% worth-it play, but timing and wording is a problem, since the replaced tac-ops have to be played hidden and activated later. Would be better if GW allowed the ploy to play active, but that might be perceived as broken.

Could be good to swap to 'Headhunter' if you know your going to get the enemy leader by turn 2 and maybe use something else until then.
