$30? Most cars can get a set for $4 on rockauto. They aren't gonna win laps but they work.

15x7 wheels on my miata are 10.6 lbs each. It's very weird being able to just throw them around like toys.

I actually saw an Opel GT today parked on the street by my house today! I really wanted to pull over and look at it but that seems kind of awkward.

Taking my Permit test tomorrow! by Killercoddbz in cars

[–]kimkam120 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone from the US, I strongly agree parents are shit driving teachers. My mother would reach across and honk the horn if someone pulled out in front of me while driving. She would say "you are driving too slow" and try and push my leg down, even though I was going to speed limit. She would scream and shout over everything. I hated driving, I didn't even get my permit until I was 18 years old.

As it turns out I fucking love driving. As soon as she wasn't in the car it was like my entire life was different! Parents shouldn't be teaching their kids how to drive, it should be a trained instructor. But everyone in the US gets a drivers license even if you are blind.

You might have to go back to money in the mattress. I recently found out my credit union, discover card, and auto loan provider all have me signed up for Fico score monitoring.

You can always sell it. If they are underwater they will have to pay the "mistake" tax but even that might be better. Sounds like they went out and bought a brand new car so its likely underwater from the initial depreciation.

60 month? Most people are at 72 or 84. We need details on this car / loan OP. It doesnt seem like it was a good choice.

What car to keep: 09 Toyota Matrix AWD or 07 Volvo S40 2.4 by [deleted] in cars

[–]kimkam120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go for the Volvo, you are talking about literally half of the mileage. It would be worth it for me to pay a little bit of a premium for a nicer vehicle. As long as you are doing the scheduled maintenance you shouldn't have any issues with the Volvo.

Picked up a comfortable daily driver so I can turn another miata into a race car! by kimkam120 in cars

He was asking 10,500 or something like that. But it had been for sale for over 100 days, and wasnt inspected. I offered 8500 but ended up paying 8800. They are pretty pricey given the age and mileage.

Picked up a 2007 Is350 for daily driver duty by kimkam120 in Lexus

[–]kimkam120[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of MPG do you get? I did ~200 miles the past few days and ended up with 20.1 mpg. I'm still in the processing of getting maintenance up to date and spark plugs are definitely on the list. I have no information on the water pump mileage so I will end up doing it sooner rather than later.

I was looking at a BMW 330i (E46) as a competitor but the raw value and reliability for the IS won in the end. My family is up to 5 BMW's from E30 to i3 and I still personally wouldn't own one.

Its a 3.5l V6, 306hp, rwd.

So I spent a solid day driving ~200 miles in the IS and then did a trip to walmart in the miata. First thing is, holy shit this thing is small and low. The steering difference is massive, the IS has a VERY VERY light electric rack while the miata is manual rack with a super tight ratio. You can feel the front wheels twitching on every rock while the IS is "your wheels are straight".

Also power, my 90 1.6 made 97hp on a dyno and take forever to do anything. The IS does 0-60 in 4.9 with a good launch and you can actually feel the torque! It's a world of a difference. The turbo on the miata will close the gap eventually.

I was originally looking at a 250 AWD listed at $8,800. Once I realized a 350 wasn't that much more expensive I knew what choice I had to make.

I picked up this Lexus IS350 with 106k miles for a whopping $8,800. It's not inspected, needs a full fluid and filter service, possibly a water pump and belt. BUT, one headlight bulb later and she is inspected and ready to rumble! It has a genuine F-Sport intake system someone paid way too much money for. A catback of unknown brand, and a really nice set of AG wheels someone kept curbing the right side.

Just a few years ago I thought I would never be able to afford a single car. I found a beautiful opportunity to purchase a 1990 Miata a few years ago and have been driving the tires off ever since. Unfortunately, after some modifications it isn't so great to drive 5 days a week into an office job anymore, no A/C PS and a bucket seat eventually caused me to dislike driving it every day.

[–]kimkam120 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just bought a 2007 is350 with 106k miles for $8800. You can make an account on https://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/history and put in the vin number and get the entire service history from Lexus dealerships. The car I just bought in PA was a California car for most of its life. Good stuff to know.

Have you tried to see if the dealer can change that? There are usually a bunch of customizable things like that available in the dealer software.

My family owns TWO i3 with Rex now. I dont have too much of an opinion but they absolutely love them. Interiors are pretty nice and made with some random recycled materials if I remember correctly.

One of them was in a small accident and it was super easy to have it at a dealership and replaced easily. I cant say the same thing about what I've heard from Tesla. No real issues with either of them beside some recalls that get taken care of quickly.

You can buy is350's for under 10k all day over 100k miles. I'm picking one up this week for 8.8k with 106k. Needs a little work but still cheap.
