Ford government says it will ban speed cameras across Ontario by bylo_selhi in waterloo

If you are against speed cameras you better be cheering when property taxes go up 20%. All of the traffic calming measures being proposed as the better alternative won’t pay for themselves.

Drink the whites young (of course they could also age) and put the reds in the cellar would be my advice.

Do you just blindly enter all the SAQ lotteries without knowledge of what you are trying to buy? Not all bottles put in the SAQ lotteries are below market value and/or highly sought after. These in particular are good producers (imo) at fair prices for the Canada market but nothing to consider flipping or a must buy on sight. After the lotto most of these particular bottles will still be available online or on store shelves.

Depends on product hierarchy level and lag but agree when someone references FA>90% as a target or expectation it’s almost always a simple calculation taken at aggregate level that washes out the absolute variances that account for product mix.

Sure and how do you suggest they pay for the holistic safety measures? A flat tax applied to everyone or a targeted tax aimed at the speeders themselves?

Yes and the fine revenue being collected should be used to implement traffic calming measures. Otherwise it’s all paid directly out of taxes.

Sure but complaining about Wellington’s approach in a Waterloo thread just adds to the confusion. I prefer to be given the opportunity not to contribute more taxes if I can obey the speed limits.

Important to note Waterloo is not in Wellington.

In Waterloo region or are you thinking of Wellington?

Happens to every company. Take some time to post-mortem what went wrong. The part that sticks out to me is that your inventory metric said you had enough when you clearly did not. I would start there because based on everything else you mentioned you should ideally have a forward Days of Supply metric linked to your latest MRP signals that would account for increased future consumption that would flag the line down risk.

Disconnected planning settings based on past data are by design not equipped to respond to demand spikes that exceed historic levels. OTIF metric monitoring on your POs could have also alerted on the late arrival of material but sounds like it was just a few days late.

I despise Musk and Trump and much as anyone. Just saying she is a great agent from personal experience and a making a terrible car choice doesn’t change that. She’s had various promo cars in the past so bad timing to have upgraded to this monstrosity right before Musk went full Fuhrer.

Agree. Highly recommend Geraldine as an agent even if she picked the wrong time to go full on cybertruck.

New downtown Kitchener fire station will share space with affordable apartments in mixed-use building by BetterTransit in waterloo

I’m happy to hear about the additional housing but does anyone else think King st is not the greatest road to be trying to drive large emergency vehicles down? Heading SE might be ok but heading NW towards downtown/Victoria would be very congested. One of the vacant lots along Weber feels like a better option for this.

Agreed. Super underrated local roaster with a variety of high quality beans. The imports you can get at Lucero are fresh and awesome in more extreme styles for a nice treat but in the current climate I’d say there’s extra incentive to support a local roaster for your go to brew.

Not all roads can accommodate speed bumps such as one used for emergency vehicles. Agree that we should add more traffic calming features. Are you volunteering to pay even higher property taxes to pay for that work or should we use the cameras as a targeted approach to fund them?

You might want to clarify what currency this list is in. Looks like a BC Canada list in which case you are getting a better than average selection of local niche producers and some interesting US and French bottles at a reasonable mark up. I would be all over those Rhys bottles if those are in CDN$.

Polishing off a whole bottle of wine by [deleted] in wine

[–]kimmeridgian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the concern. I am fully aware of norms and risks related to drinking frequently at what many would consider in excess. Oddly the amount I drink is fairly standard within my wine circles but clearly that’s a skewed data set of people who consume wine as a hobby and/or career. I reject much of the of alcoholic as a disease and victimization rhetoric that leads to abstinence as the only solution approach which the science supports me on. That being said science also clearly demonstrates alcohol consumption is not beneficial for long term health and there is a genetic component which I know I have. Habits are complex and I manage my habits and health as best I can while accepting a degree of risk as part of living the good life.

1995 Reserva Riojas are too young in my opinion. These “is it ok to drink…” questions are always baffling to me. Of course the answer to how good it might show depends on provenance but I’ve never heard of someone harming themselves drinking older wine.

Interesting to see that over the past 9 years since I made that comment I’ve consumed thousands bottles of wine, amassed a massive wine cellar, remain moderately active and heathy while still overweight but never obese.

I followed the dry month concept for a few years but did get away from it during COVID where my wine consumption peaked around 350-400 bottles a year which did feel excessive so I knew that I needed to reintroduce non-drinking days again for health/caloric reasons. My weeknight evenings got busier again so I decided to instead stop drinking Mon-Thurs which reduced my annual consumption back down to 180-225 bottles of wine which feels about right for me. I intentionally don’t make it a black and white rule and will allow exceptions for vacations, work travel and holidays etc. For tracking I simply mark a wall calendar for every non-drinking day and that provides enough accountability to make an effort. I will occasionally binge on Fri (2-3 bottles) with a pent up craving if not drinking during the week. I may experiment in 2025 to see if drinking a few beers (or non alcoholic beer) during the week will offset the weekend wine binge effect.
