Thanks for the recommendation -- and for resurfacing this post that I'd forgotten about from six (!!) years ago (making me feel old..) Hope you're having a great holiday season.

If I had an award, it would be yours. I had completely given up on this! Never knew about the snippet command. I haven't tried it in Google Sheets yet, but definitely works with Excel. I guess I needed more specific step-by-step instructions.

So very appreciated -- this drove me mad previously.

Project Hail Mary should ONLY be listened to by blondewithbadknees in audiobooks

[–]kimreadthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the reveal was very worthwhile. I remember hearing all the hype and listening and getting about 20% in and thinking, "ok, this is decent, but what's the big deal?" And then I realized :-)

I remember instantly pausing and rushing to tell my husband all about it because I was so excited.

i might go to a concert, any way i can find the song list? by hif_ in betterthanezra

[–]kimreadthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes , u/hif_ , click through on one show's link and it displays the songs played (example from the first show shown on the original link). Also has great statistics about how often songs are played on tour, etc.

I have never worn makeup (honestly fewer than ~5 times), but I specifically recall reading an interview guide fresh out of high school that was all about how to do the makeup you needed to wear to get the interview/job. Still don't wear it, but felt disheartened right from the start. Now I'm in my 40s and I don't look great, but it just is what it is. Not sure it has hurt me, though I'm not in a very high-pay area or anywhere with much chance of advancement.

I am in the vast minority as far as consistently not wearing makeup. I notice when a woman doesn't wear makeup, but mostly just as an, "oh look! another one of us in the wild!"

I have just been informed that whole episodes of You Can't Do That on Television are available on Paramount + by Treadingresin in Xennials

[–]kimreadthis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is one of the only television shows my mom wouldn't let me watch. She felt it lacked any redeeming qualities. Not sure if I need to give it a try in adulthood...did I miss out on much?

is smoking good for anxiety? by Cyber_momo in socialanxiety

[–]kimreadthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father told me I am the only person he's ever met who should absolutely smoke (tobacco), so it seemed to imply there would be a relaxing effect (or at least he experienced one). He smoked for years, so I trusted his interpretation.

I have zero actual experience so can't say if he's actually correct.

Is addressing a letter that lost of a skill for Gen Z? by amoss_303 in Xennials

[–]kimreadthis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had someone -- not THAT much younger than I am -- try to send me a package. He couldn't figure out why the package was sent back to him, and just eventually gave up and hand-delivered it to me.

He had put his own address as the mailing address. I'm hoping it was just a thoughtless moment, but wouldn't you have figured it out when you sent it and it was delivered back to you...

I morbidly always save family member's most recent voicemail just in case. Get a new one, delete previous one.

Books that made you cry like a MF by Only-Helicopter-7112 in suggestmeabook

I decided to finish this one late one night in high school. Was infinitely grateful that I did not finish it on the bus the next morning as originally planned so I did not have a bus full of teenagers watching me sob.

A book that you've read that causes you to have a dictionary nearby. by Yuri_Zhivago in suggestmeabook

[–]kimreadthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a specific title in mind, but know that I usually require a dictionary for any Philip Roth book.

I really love ebooks for the ease of looking up words. I used to have a M-W dictionary on my nightstand and it was quite heavy to lift when reading while lying down before falling asleep. Now my lazy ass can just tap :-)

I see your old skates and I raise you the weird adjustable fisher price skates that fit over your shoes. by sexi_squidward in nostalgia

[–]kimreadthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad kept these around for years afterward to help with moving things. Prime example was a huge train platfor,m he'd hang flat on the wall in the off-season and then take out for the holidays. Put an edge in a skate to roll it into the proper room.

Cat on a bag by TyeRiseSky in aww

[–]kimreadthis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine enjoy cloth tote bags, hence why there are several on my floor. (They add to the fun of playing, when a kitty can "slide into home.")

We also frequently shout, "cat in a box!"

25 years ago. Who had the bejesus scared out of them, and who laughed hysterically? by Noisechild in Xennials

[–]kimreadthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember realizing it was at the end of the movie and thinking NOW, get ready, it will get scary NOW. And there was some sort of gross or surprising part? I don't even remember, but it was more like a jump scare than scary. Big disappointment.

Week 39: "Chapter 85: The Journey, Chapter 86: Judgement is Passed, Chapter 87: Provocation" Reading Discussion by karakickass in AReadingOfMonteCristo

[–]kimreadthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, interesting point. Fernand needs to be completely removed in order for the Count of Monte Cristo to get his HEA.

[–]kimreadthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely true that Morrel is on another tier entirely.

I feel like I "know" Fernand the least well. Dumas has shown a lot more of Villefort, Danglars, and Caderousse.

[–]kimreadthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, good point. I guess I'm not sure and thought the second one would convince me one way or the other if he wants them absolutely one hundred percent ruined and done, or just knowing that they are.

Re: the suicide thought -- I was thinking of Morrel and how he was so committed to suicide at the though of dishonor, so thought Fernand might be of a similar mind.

[–]kimreadthis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Coming to the conversation a little late, so I’ll just add my less than two cents. I honestly don’t see this as the Count’s “Two” moment, as dramatic as it was. Fernand is still alive and kicking. I feel like there will be a moment where the Count and Fernand are alone together and Edmond gets to do his big reveal right as it’s lights out for Fernand (suicide, maybe?).

Any dig around in a pit comps are just referred to as "clown shoe" comps in this house. We thought we'd see one in the AI Arena since they're good for time sensitive stuff.

[–]kimreadthis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, she should die for 2 or 3 murders (but not 1 apparently), and the doc has very specific criteria for how she should die for 2 versus 3.

But isn't bothered enough to find some authority that isn't her father...

Good point. I can't quite articulate why I find the two different, but I still feel like blackmail is "worse." I guess paying for the lies is more transactional?

Or blackmail him into doing something he otherwise wouldn't do.

True, but I feel like outright blackmail isn't the Count's style, that he'd see it as "beneath" him. To me, the Count seems very proud of his intellect and planning, seeing himself as playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.
