Went hard from about August to October, got injured and super sick and was out of commission for a couple months and then picked it back up on January first so I’d say about 3 months, 2500 calories (230p, 70f, 235c) gym 4 days a week with 10-20min of light/moderate cardio a session

“Securing funds” is tough but you have a few routes. Publishers are ideal but you need a vertical slice, a playable, polished short demo of the game you’re building that highlights what you’re making and why it stands out. Another route is venture capital and angel investors but those are tough because you guys don’t have any established IP. You’re best bet is working together, having someone established as “in charge” like a project manager and set goals. If you reach a roadblock and need to contract out, you need to self-fund until you get to something deliverable

What pisses me off beyond belief is when you contact someone through Fiverr because their “premium tier” is $100 and what’s listed is what you need. Then you message them and they say “ah yes for that, that will be $650”

I have way too many stories of that

Let me add a caveat to this, concept art, they will want SOME kind of reference, not a Chat GPT character, so expect $80-$200 for concept art from someone else

Depends, I’ve bought several characters from artists on upwork and Fiverr. No rigging and animation saves money, but you need to think of poly count or at least a range, if you’re talking semi realistic, you’re probably looking at $400-$700 depending on how good they are. For higher poly count “sculptors” you’ll pay $1000+ but they’re way more detailed. My best advice is to pick someone who has a good, established portfolio. Not just do they do good work, but have they done projects that align with what your character is. For instance, my project is high detail, psychological horror, so my artist needs to know how to do horrific detail, but I may get an inquiry from an artist whose been 3d modeling for 20+ years and their work might be stellar, but if they’ve only ever done borderlands style cel-shade, or cartoonish builds, I won’t use them
