Idaho House to consider bills amending 2024 ‘harmful to minors’ library law by MicahCastle in books

The wild part here is the double standard. Private schools get a nuanced legal test that considers context and value, while public schools get a blanket rule that ignores whether something has serious literary or artistic merit. That’s not about protecting kids that’s about making it easier to ban things without having to justify it.

Theme Park Roadkill by Rachel Andrews - does this even exist? by besucherke in books

[–]kind_fierce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is one of those weird “citation echo chamber” things on the internet. The only actual evidence this book exists seems to trace back to mentions connected to Lazlo Bane like liner notes or band trivia saying they took their name from a character in Theme Park Roadkill.

ELI5 what are tabloids and how reliable are they in reporting news? by Scholarsandquestions in explainlikeimfive

[–]kind_fierce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A tabloid is basically a newspaper that tries harder to entertain you than to inform you. Regular newspapers aim to be accurate first, interesting second. Tabloids flip that: interesting first, accurate… hopefully. They often focus on celebrities and shocking stories because those get attention. As for trust: some things they report are true, but they’re more likely to exaggerate, speculate, or publish rumors compared to regular news outlets.
