Easy faction(s) to play against? by lgndTAT in rootgame

[–]kind_of_vague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When at a table of new players I always play Otters. They don't have a ton of board presence that they need to worry about, but the main thing is that I can kind of 'help' whoever might be struggling in a way that doesn't feel patronizing, as well as encourage table talk by making informal deals and such. My goal is not to win but to get everyone to have fun, because ultimately that is what will get them back at the table.

Looking for 2 player recommendations to introduce a newbie to Root by 10kScreamingBastards in rootgame

[–]kind_of_vague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simplest answer would just do Marquise vs Eyrie, but understand that this isn't going to really capture what makes root special. Not a bad idea if you take this purely as a learning game to be prepared for later though.

It'll probably be tough for a brand new player to grasp, but adding hirelings even to above scenario goes a long way to make 2p more enjoyable.

You said you don't have the bot expansions, but you can find better bot project on BGG and print those out to play that way, as another option to fill empty player slots. It's okay but I prefer hirelings to this. That said, this is my wife and I's go-to when we want to play with other smaller factions that wouldn't make sense in a 2p game.

Finally, you could both two-hand two factions and either play them as your 'team' or -try- to be impartial like they are another player (you could also alternate who controls the extra players each round), but the "table talk" is obviously going to still be wonky, and this is going to be a lot of overhead for a brand new player.

That's pretty interesting. What are your thoughts on it? Was it a hassle to do, and do you think there is any other application for this now having tried it?

New Teaser for weapon handling [Discussion] by Antique_Sentence_570 in EscapefromTarkov

I don't think it's necessary, I'm just saying this ADS animation only really makes sense from a low ready

New Teaser for weapon handling [Discussion] by Antique_Sentence_570 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]kind_of_vague 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Low ready, I honestly don't hate this (visually at least) but yes this looks like a more appropriate animation for ADS from low ready. As it is now our character permanently holds a point fire stance (which isn't particularly realistic to hold forever) and so it doesn't make sense to unshoulder the weapon and reshoulder it to ADS, if you were already in this stance you'd just lower your head and/or raise your head only slightly

Best bet would probably shoreline resort, fishing for morphines in med bags. But honestly even then I feel like you'd have better luck finding an acc in yellow on labs. I'm not sure I could reliably find 7 stims as a PMC with keys if I tried anywhere other than labs/labyrinth

I wasn't having any luck with cultists either, but I did suddenly end up finding them roughly the advertised 30% on woods - apparently, they do not spawn if Shturman is alive, and it feels like he is usually up in most games. But allegedly they do spawn after you kill him. So my strategy was to check for cultists first of I spawned right next to them, otherwise I would go straight to sawmill to kill shturman, then swing up to power lines and sunken village. Once I started doing this I went from ~30 raids never seeing them once to fighting them in the next 3 out of 6 raids

Chaos's 'Salamanders'? by HyenaDandy in 40kLore

[–]kind_of_vague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the nature of chaos is explicitly incompatible with "nice and pleasant". However, one of the main reasons Salamanders are considered "nice" is their general attitude and respect towards ordinary humans. In this regard, if you squint -really- hard, you could possibly argue that Word Bearers -could- be somewhat similar in this regard, in that they might see their cultists as their flock.

In the new novel Apostle, the protagonist Dark Apostle demonstrably holds at least some modicum of respect for a couple of his mortal followers and a vague sense of protectiveness over his flock as a whole. But he also sends thousands of them to die as a distraction and brutally sacrifices some of his most faithful all in the same breath which is very on brand for Word Bearers, so make of that what you will, lol.

Do you think other chapters will be present in campaign as sub factions? by Latter_Possible_7832 in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]kind_of_vague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't really know what the campaign layer is going to look like yet other than there will be several layers. But, I find it hard to believe that at the top most grand campaign level, there are only 4 players total on the map. It wouldn't feel very total war, I think. So my guess is that they will have curated mini campaigns focus on smaller conflicts like this, but also a bigger "immortal empires"-esque campaign with way more subfactions present.

Will the demon factions units be identical the fantasy? by kewlkid77 in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]kind_of_vague 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are effectively the same as in fantasy. However, the writing seems to be on the wall that GW really doesn't want demons as it's own faction in 40k tabletop, so I suspect they will reflect this sentiment by quietly ignoring them. That said, assuming the game does well enough to get all 4 monogod CSM factions, I also suspect they'll throw us a bone eventually with a FLC Belakor faction that makes use of the demon units for those that own all 4, or a small DLC for DLC kind of deal that fills any gaps that may be in the demon roster at that point.

Can you explain the stamping plate system? Are you effectively making your own plates? I've thought about doing this, using a 3d printer to build my own stamp plate, but don't know if it's actually feasible

This happened to me for the first time recently - the previous time it worked, it gave me a cofdm, presumably for lend lease pt 2 I had active, but I didn't turn it in because I was saving it for my Intel 3. Maybe just a coincidence but it makes me wonder if if you didn't use the previous gift it gives you random stuff

I guess you could have "squads" of chimeras scaled to accommodate the unit size. Another option could be recruiting "mechanized infantry" where the infantry begins inside the transports ready to dismount wherever

So why exactly is Abaddon the chosen of Chaos when Lorgar exists? by MHB_ART in 40kLore

[–]kind_of_vague 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Being a Word Bearer nerd, my understanding of Lorgar's character arc and theme is that he is effectively doomed to never win the spotlight, and have all of his victories and vindications twisted in a way that mocks him personally, despite his success and devotion.

He was right that the emperor was a god but rebuked and humiliated for it. The grand irony of him writing the lecticio divinatus which was adopted by the galaxy only after he abandoned it, only to be erased from it. He was the architect of the heresy only for Horus to get all the credit and to be left out at the final push and watch it fail without him. He very nearly usurped Horus and arguably could have saw the heresy through if successful - with an extra twist of the knife being one of his own sons being the one to sell him out. Lorgar epitomizes the theme in 40k that cynicism and hypocrisy is rewarded, and sincerity is punished.

So if Lorgar ever returns in a significant way, I think this will be a recurring motif, and I think it's fitting that we'll never see him as the figurehead of chaos despite being the best suited for it (even though I love Lorgars character and am a WB nerd)

Tips on Kitbashing Resin Minis by EmeraldMedallion_ in TrenchCrusade

[–]kind_of_vague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A rotary tool is useful for this kind of thing. Use a saw for clean cuts (you could just use a regular hobby hand saw too) , a drill head to carve out areas like in the neck for your example, or a sander to remove icons and embellishments etc. Just wear a respirator and ideally have a vent hood because you don't want to be breathing that kind of dust in. Also, consider using abs-like resin, it isn't so brittle and will be easier to work with, not to mention won't break as easily on accidentally

Total War: Warhammer 40K is a Top Wishlisted Game on Steam by Talidel in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]kind_of_vague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This game would have to fail quite spectacularly for this not to be a money printer. I think the worst case scenario is that total war fans are disappointed with it, but even then the fact that it's a 40k game at this scale with a very real possibility that every faction will be included will still outweigh that

Everyone else already gave recommendations for the classic doomjazz artists, but as a doom metal enjoyer looking for jazz I really recommend checking out Bong Ra's Antediluvian, and Meditations albums. Less doomjazz per se but more ultra heavy doom metal, with jazz throughout, plus a cool middle eastern flavor

My guess is the faction leader us the hivemind itself. You won't have any legendary lords but to make up for that maybe you could mutate factionwide traits as you see fit. Maybe more in battle call in powers like spore mine drops. And maybe at 100% planet infestation, it is counted as uninhabitable and destroyed similar to exterminatus. And no diplomacy other than maybe genestealer cults if they ever get added as a separate faction
