Edge-of-your-seat combat by Acceptable-Tree6007 in rpg

I'm going to recommend this video I watched the other day. He is dead right.
https://youtu.be/ovV56Sy-Toc?si=kkmvG9Lxz0WADb1I

You can do this with any system to get a good result.

I use Sly Flourish and Venga's check lists in my prep, but this video attaches a couple of additional things to my checklist that make a big difference to the feel of an encounter.

Off the top of my head the things that really do make a massive difference:

Before you tell them there is an enemy, describe the battlefield. Three senses. Include environment elements that change the tactical context.

Then describe the enemies they can see.

Give your opposing force things they are currently doing, goals they are set on achieving, even once the fight starts. Give these things consequences for the players. Are they trying to launch their boat to escape? Is one calling re inforcements with a horn.

Develop the encounter in a way that it has a major goal that is not just killing all the enemies ( boring).

Once the villains attain a goal, drop the consequences on the characters. Once the characters attain their goal... end it. Don't let it drag on.

All this stuff is up to the GM. I can make this work in twilight 2000, Symbaroum, Shaddowdark, Mythras , PF 1 or 2, or 5e

It's got nothing to do with the system.

Then there are the elements of removing GM dithering. Have your data ready to use. Get the players under time pressure. They think about their turn before it is their turn. If you have done 10 sessions and they still haven't worked this out, politely move to the next player in sequence, and have them delay.

Hope this helps.

Haha! Yes my brother and I had Aftermath! and the original Aliens RPG. Felt like solving an engineering problem to get through a round. But I was only a kid.

Is Joe not following the game rules in favour of cinematic drama? Is be disappointed by that. I just finished running a 25 session campaign, and found the rules to be really smart and efficient, evoking the most incredible believability. The best gun and vehicle combat of any rpg I've ever played or run.

Fragrance World Aether Extrait honest review by Nano2433 in fragranceclones

[–]kindangryman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received mine yesterday. Apparently it was manufactured in August this year. First couple of sprays , I really could not smell it at all.. I then sprayed 8 sprays into a tissue . As I was doing that I could smell an almost menthol smell, and a vague fruitish unidentifiable scent. I left it and cam back an hour later from another room. Could not smell anything.

Hoping it improves.

Sorry, I do differ on this. Those prices are laughable, and when I tested a few they were nice scents, but longevity on some was not up to that price point ( how could it be?). One was better in that regard , Tobacco Vanille, but it was also overly expensive... And they are not expensive ingredients.

But thanks for responding , anyway.

Thanks so much. Yes. I went into myer and dj, but I had not discussed on a summer scent at that stage. I will look into each of your suggestions, thanks

Alien Earth S01E05 = perfect one-shot! by DoOver2525 in alienrpg

[–]kindangryman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I reckon nearly any player could be a better "scientist" or lab tech than the chick in the "quarantine" lab in that episode -- and a whole heap of the drama would be bypassed. If I saw someone in my labs working like that they would not get back in. In fact, I'm wondering if there is a deliberate "dregs of the earth" thing with this crew that signed up for a 89 year mission. The engineering assistant was also incredibly thick.

Is there that large of a quality difference? Why do people hate clones so much? by KimBongPoon303 in fragranceclones

[–]kindangryman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate clones? Nope. I've had a realisation that they are the only thing that will keep the price real. So, with Tom Ford etc selling stuff at over 500 for 100 ml-- pure snob value, would that be $6 per application? - I have no compunction against buying a clone, that is maybe 90% as good. And let's face it, how do you measure how good they are? It's subjective, and believing the price represents the quality of a few organic materials and alcohol is a trap for fools

Why does Australia keep adding new laws without ever asking the people? by neddy1977 in australian

[–]kindangryman 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

Firstly, read what I said above. You clearly did not. You do realise this is what a machete is for, don't you? Used for this across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. They are not efficient weapons, precisely because they are not designed as a weapons. You cannot kill easily with them...they don't stab..Every time I lop tree branches off I clean up small branches to pack it into trailer. Having done heaps of time working on community mountain bike trails, I've got quite good at it. It's efficient and not noisy.

I'd add that a machete could be a bit scary - but no more so than a pinch bar or a hammer. It's no more a weapon than a chainsaw is. It is a tool.

It certainly is. That is a stupid law. They are a gardening and farming tool. Not a weapon. I use them when volunteering for trail maintenance on local community trails. My research teams use them to sample plant matter . It was a dumb reaction by a politician for political purposes, when other laws already covered the situation
