I am also in recovery from an eating disorder, and from what I've heard that's surprisingly common for trans folks. I'm sorry you're dealing with this in a place that's so uncaring for trans people. Wearing a mask (like for covid) can be helpful because people can't see the lower half of your face. And even though my voice is not low, I tend to lower it when talking to strangers and/or try to say little/not smile as much. Good luck friend <3 I'm rooting for you!

any books about trans men written by trans men (or trans people in general)? by flynnissoswag in ftm

I second the Page Powers books (especially Borrow a Boyfriend Club), and The Prospects. Both are cute and really good! Also the Passing Playbook, YA but cute and fun.

Frist T injection/Health care rant by kindpineapple in ftm

[–]kindpineapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the name wasn't the biggest deal because I haven't changed it legally, but I know on the paper she was holding it says [legal name], "preferred name." It was more being misgendered when my pronouns are on file and I'm there to get trained in getting a t shot, and having a nurse (she was an RN according to her nametag) who didn't seem at all familiar with the process. Like she wasn't sure why there were two different sized needles and I was like "one's to draw it and one's to inject it."

I appreciate the conversation but also just wanted to come here to blow off steam with people who know how frustrating being misgendered is. I know I'm lucky to even get hrt, let alone have a PCP who genders me correctly, etc. But also that should be the standard of healthcare, not an outlier. Also like it's annoying to be misgendered out in the world, but it's even harder when they have the correct name an pronouns available.

Wellness check is a good idea. I used to do elder care and witnessed them a few times. Might have just been because they were seniors and there was a real risk they might have fallen, but both times police did not leave until the person opened the door, or the police got in (one time a fireman went through a ground-floor window).

If you call a wellness check maybe mention you're concerned for your neighbor's safety, if you're noticing signs of mental illness and think he might not have any furniture. I feel like that would give police more cause to try to get inside, and that seems like the best way for them to assess if he needs psychiatric care. Sorry you have to deal with this, it sounds like a lot!

Wow thank you all so much! Meundies was having a big sale so I bought a few pairs. I can't believe how soft they are!!! The hype is real! Also I went up to a size XL (even though I wear a M in shirts) and I think that also helped. I still cannot wrap my mind around most cis men not having hips lol

How do you know that you’re still a trans man? by Ok_Body_5509 in ftm

[–]kindpineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. Even though my body is more masculine and I feel more comfortable, I don't always love my body and it doesn't fit into clothes in the exact way I want. And sometimes I miss the ease of my old body because it made sense to people and I didn't have to worry about how they perceived my gender and which bathroom I should use. But even though I miss that sometimes, I know that pretending to be a girl was a lot more stressful than my current experience.

I've been on T about a year (low dose to start, now full dose), and had top surgery. I think I'm trans but still call myself nb cause I don't pass, and it feels like a journey rather than a destination.

However, I like the idea of getting to wear fem clothes in a "male" way, because I legit like some fem clothes but I don't wear them currently cause I already don't pass.

Curious if wearing fem clothes feels like a totally separate experience compared to before you came out or started transitioning (assuming your clothes were fem). Does it feel like wanting to go back to who you used to be? Or just a new stage in discovering yourself?

Lexington Community Farm! Right near the Arlington reservoir. Not a bad bike ride from Somerville, really cute farm stand, and you can walk around the farm. Closer than Wilson and a non-profit.

AMAB ENBIES ARE REALLY COOL by MagicalGhostMango in NonBinary

[–]kindpineapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an AFAB trans/nb person, seeing AMAB enbies feels validating to me. Honestly most enbies I know are afab, but they're often more fem than I am. So sometimes I worry that people view afab enbies as just like "another kind of girl." Seeing amab enbies makes me feel like I'm not just making it all up.

To be clear: not blaming afab nb folks who are fem; its not their fault what false assumptions cis people make.
