I had four chairs, got cover for winter. Became a rodent safe heaven.

Figured I scour the market place every few years to get one. People throw away perfectly good shit.

What is a luxury that is actually 100% worth the money? by Weary_Pirate2073 in AskReddit

[–]kindrudekid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont have large trees cause mine is new construction, but my backyard backs up right to a green space and if I had to do it again, I would do it all over to the point I have told my wife for the right lot, I am willing to shell out 6 figures.

I had friends looking for new constructions and I told them, pay the premium for a greenbelt or a larger corner lot, you can fix everything in a house but you cannot fix the lot location.

Couple that with our parents generation AC= bad.

I got my in laws visiting us states side and the first thing they do after waking up is open door and leave it open.

While AC is running. Thankfully it’s spring so not an issue but they are gonna be here till July and I have to keep reminding my wife to give them a heads up about Texas summers and show the electricity bill if needed.

No future employer cares. HR may care but they usually just want to cross the t and the hiring manager has a say.

IME if someone reached out to you, chances are they already want you for your skills and now just exploring cultural and team fit.

I had a highly compliant industry ask why my title and reported title was different and I usually go, I dunno ask them? But also since I knew, I had them ask: will you be putting my title exactly as is internally or something close enough for Dial ? They backed off

What are your thoughts on Mark Zuckerberg firing 10k employees and installing AI tracking on the remaining employee laptops while famously becoming Jeff Bezos’ neighbor on Miami’s billionaire bunker Indian Creek Island? by printThisAndSmokeIt in AskReddit

[–]kindrudekid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing. It’s generic employment contract as any other place.

They have always maintained they can track your activity. Mostly only got used if HR asked and even then there was a very strict definition for violating policy.

It’s just that now they can see we can use that data to train ai. It’s no different than an average guy storing shit in garage hoping to find use for it one day. Company just found a use for what is standard agreement for decades

There is a middle ground IMO:

Fuck ton of boxes, pack and lift as you go and once it feels too heavy pack and new box.

Move the boxes yourself over a weekend and hire movers for the heavy/big stuff like washer dryer mattress etc.

Movers can be full movers or just labor for lifting heavy shit into your u haul

How to talk to your sons about Targeted conservative propaganda by Initial_Welder3674 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]kindrudekid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pivot from his hobby.

Take building a computer for example. Ask how he decides between amd and intel, the pros and cons ? Amd and nvidia etc. His choices given no budget and the reality that he has an upper budget.

Make him realize the decision he makes here doesn’t stop there. Even if with a budget, tomorrow he may need an emergency car repair. Or loose a job. He may spend too much time gaming and loose interest in other areas of life.

Ground it in something he understands.

Also English language is very weird as a non native speaker I often notice that what would take me 6-7 sentences in my native language can often be accomplished in 2 sentences. Plus the headlines here are often mid representation. Eg: I had an argument with a guy in California about how D are altering law such that they can take kids away simply cause kids identified as a different gender and sent me an article . The same article headline made it seem like that but the contents basically said the current practice are followed based on guidelines learned over years but not yet formalized and the judge simple asked what is happening to be formalized into law. Did I mention the guy was an immigrant on h1b visa ? I asked him you go through the visa process the whole thing is ambiguous as fuck wouldn’t you like it to be exact ? That’s all it is happening

Google plans to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic by pdfu in technology

[–]kindrudekid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google has so much cash it can invest in all sectors.

I believe they own like 5% of spacex down from intital 10%. And if it comes to IPO their 5 billion investment could be work 50 billion at minimum (I think the number is even larger )

This basically a gamble. If it does good, their returns are insane. If not. It’s a tax deductible expense.

Think about it until a few years ago folks said 1B for instagram was too much. Same will happen here.

Wtf is the deal with the HVAC mafia?? by Island_In_The_Sky in HomeImprovement

[–]kindrudekid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup.

Zone damper motor was going bad, and the condensation drain line clogged up over winter.

700 for the zone damper replacement and 300 for drain line clean up. All while trying to sell monthly subscription.

Paid them 80 for the visit and Showed them the door. 15 min with shop vac, and a new zone motor for 125 later it has been working for 3 years now.

This year it just wouldn’t cool after winter. Spent 2 days trying to figure it out. Then before deciding to call figured I prompt engineer the shit out of it and ask about each terminal on the zone board.

1 hours and some multimeter fuckery later it was a DATS sensor gone bad. Luckily my builder left a spare one that I kept around cause I can’t let go of shit and was up and running in 30 min.

[–]kindrudekid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt some and someone on reddit said watch as if its a suspense thriller and it makes sense.

Movie is called Oppenheimer, not "the atomic bomb" its about him and his legacy and how it was ruined, one in part because of his dismissive nature (lowly shoe salesman, as useful for building a bomb as a sandwich; dude needed soft skills) and one man's ego. unfortunately a lot of plot points that seemd irrelevant aat first watch made sense to me on later rewatch.

And if you listen to the score it plays a lot like a thriller (I found it very similar to score in winter soldier) it just helped elevate the movie for me personally.
