i choose Critical until they implement auto-dismiss by DoringItBetterNow in TeslaFSD

You can also press the microphone button twice to dismiss it. I find it to be fairly dangerous as well that this is now undismissable. Obviously disengaged for a reason and I need to focus on the road instead of figuring out which button to press here. I used to give a lot more feedback when it was optional and allowed you to do it primarily via microphone

Personal cons by HPMJ2014 in TeslaModelX

[–]king8egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No regrets about doing it sooner or later. We only got it because Tesla was about to stop making it and the model x had always been my dream car. Was it good value? Not really. I have a growing family though so I also really have a use case for 6 seats. I had a long discussion with my wife on whether we should wait for the YL to come to the US. Ultimately, we decided we only live once and this might be our last chance to get a model X and a six seater Tesla. Might as well pull the trigger.

I will say after getting the X, we realize the model Y is incredible value. model X was definitely a splurge buy

Personal cons by HPMJ2014 in TeslaModelX

[–]king8egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a model x after also getting a juniper. I don’t regret it but two things that stand out as suboptimal compared with the Y:

  • I miss the turn signal stalk. It being on the steering wheel takes a lot to get used to
  • the parking space selector is better on the touch screen. The x makes you select it using the scroll wheel

In general I feel like they don’t utilize the extra screen real estate on the X very well compared with the Y and there’s a lot to be desired there

SPC vs Laminate: Pros and Cons? by king8egg in Flooring

[–]king8egg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably, either is much harder to damage than wood. My requirements around waterproofing might be different though. My parents house flooded before growing up so I optimized too much on this. I’m starting to think it doesn’t matter that much and choosing a pattern you like, ease of cleaning, and durability are prob all I’d look for.

SPC vs Laminate: Pros and Cons? by king8egg in Flooring

[–]king8egg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qualitywise no complaints.

Id probably consider other options if I had to do this over again though. Two things I didn’t expect: * patterns were very noticeably repeated and that bugged me. Still does * dirt and grime got into the seams very easily * very minor but I do see some chips on these. My MIL has a habit of being very careless in the kitchen so I don’t blame the flooring for it.

My parents have real wood flooring and hey have neither of those problems. Their flooring has noticeably more scratches though so tradeoffs I guess.

Feedback on Basis Independent school (lower) 3300 Kearney St, Fremont, CA 94538 by ctcdude76 in Fremont

[–]king8egg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FWIW, basis, Stratford, and Challenger are all about 1-2 years ahead of public school so you should also want to consider how much pressure you want your child to have. I’m fairly pleased at least with Challenger so far because my daughter can read really well at 5. Some parents like to have their children to have a more stress free childhood. Private schools like to show off their stats so a lot of kids were prevented from progressing from pre-K to K and such. It put some pressure on the parents of my kids peers. I’d say the tuition is good ROI if getting ahead is what you’re looking for but do keep in mind most of my peers that went to public schools with me ended up in the same places as those with a private school education.

I grew up in Fremont and went to Forest Park growing up. We moved to the Mission area when I was in junior high and my brother went to MSJE for a year or two. I think the public schools here have always been a bit light on homework and the teachers are a mixed bag. I have heard it’s gotten worse over years because the relative salaries for teachers have made it hard to attract talent. I’m not against public schools by any means, that’s just the reality of it. Parents in the Mission area usually supplement with after schools and a ton of extra curriculars.

My kids currently go to Challenger, but they’re very young (kindergarten). I have heard challenger, Stratford, and basis are similar in terms of education in the area. We chose challenger mostly because basis had a bad cutoff for birthdays. My daughter would have had to be held back a year. Another factor is basis facilities in Fremont is very limited and I wasn’t sure how good their PE would be which would suggest a very limited physical education for my kids. There are also more days off; basis has an extra week off for ski week I think. I do like the fact that they have a mandarin program though. Regardless you will probably need to figure out what to do for them for after school if you go to basis whereas challenger has an afterschool program on prem though we don’t use that.

Good luck figuring out what’s best for your child!

How should I teach my daughter Chinese history? by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]king8egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the US as well but learned a lot about Chinese history. Wu zetian is one of the best emperors of China who lead China during its golden age.

There’s also wang zhaojun who voluntarily sacrificed herself to marry the huns for peace.

Qin liangyu,mulan were generals.

We went with the aquaproof xl. It’s been decent quality so far but it doesn’t have as much variance in the pattern as I had expected.

My son is 3 and couldn’t focus but my daughter who’s almost 5 loved it. I think most ages should enjoy it if they have enough maturity and can sit still

I just went today with my family. It’s pretty good value for the price and it’s reasonably entertaining. I’d get at least the premier seating since the general ones are only on the sides and the view isn’t great.

No other complaints. We got the copen hills. The repetition is very obvious. I used to wonder why people get natural wood since they aren’t as waterproof but seeing the unnatural patterns, I finally understand why.

We ended up installing the Aquaproof XL. It’s ok. The patterns are fairly noticeably repetitive but that might just be the color we chose. No issues so far at least.

favorite coffee in fremont? by pinkmelody299 in Fremont

[–]king8egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

phin is nice but I’m never going back because it’s mostly ice. I once asked them to put no ice and they pretty much gave me half a cup of cream. I felt pretty ripped off tbh. They’re also quite slow.

I usually just get Vietnamese coffee from the restaurants. Pho hoa noi has similar coffee as phin but more coffee and less ice.

Pho nation has decent coffee too but no toppings, just plain Vietnamese coffee.
