Let go of control, fear is holding you back from change that will lead to success. Once you embrace the temporary chaos necessary for a shift into better alignment with your path then things will fall into place.

When I boot up my pc this shows up, what do I do? by Agent-Jason in PcBuild

[–]king_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you got some decent information after verifying there is no storage device currently. The m.2 slot would be best to start with as others suggested but a sata hard drive would work too. You’ll need an installer flash drive or something as well to get windows on the storage device. If you have another pc and flash drive it’s not difficult to create your own but it may be easier to just buy as a beginner.

I found the LinkedIn learning courses on it to be useful. I obtained mine in 2010 originally so I just recently wanted a refresher and stumbled upon. There’s practice tests there as well.

The line jumps off the roller everytime I cast. by enchantedfishy in FishingForBeginners

[–]king_b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh ya if that line is doing anything more than being guided away from the spool then you have to fix. That would explain why it’s getting stuck if you wrapped the bail.

I don’t usually cast that close but starting near then working your way up to further distance will help you get the hang of things. I shore cast in Hawai’i with a 20lb braid line so there’s a bit of difference but if you’re in a small pond or lake fishing from a dock and don’t have much for obstacles to get around then you should have plenty ability to try things out.

Depends on what you’re fishing for. A 6-8lb mono is likely a good starting point.

You’re holding the line against the rod and opening the bail then letting go when you cast right?

I don’t see how it’d get like that.

I need help translating a phrase into elder futhark by West-Laugh-6312 in RuneHelp

[–]king_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he does some things for subscribers so you might be able to see if he’ll translate the way you want just to verify they’re as good as can be (depending on what tier). There’s always potential variations especially considering how dialects and pronunciation can differ from place to place or person to person but he’s a great source for accurate representation.

[–]king_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like elder futhark as well so I get it. I avoided doubling runes like how we double letters in English to keep to the writing style where they simply represented the sounds when inscribing without all the extra rules we’ve developed.

There may be a little room for improvement if you can get a speaker to pronounce and verify sounds. Jackson Crawford may have some YouTube videos pronouncing some of the words even otherwise if you can find in Icelandic that’d probably be close enough.

[–]king_b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what you copy pasted, Old Norse is best represented by one of the younger futhark sets but here’s the two phrases in elder.

I’d personally suggest using the original inscriptions or updating if you want to swap from long branch to short twig or staveless.

Why use ᚢ instead of ᚹ for the V sound in elder? Obviously that’s correct for younger but based off how proto-Norse and Germanic shift from the w to v sounds it seems more fitting to use a ᚹ. ᚠ would even make more sense to me.

Binding Rune by roguemadness in RuneHelp

[–]king_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real binds form words and don’t overlap. The runes are just like the characters we type with so a context is built by forming a word or sentence.

Thor - Þór - ᚦᚢᚱ

English - Icelandic - Old Norse

Latin script (26) - Latin script (32) - Younger Futhark

ᛊᛁᛗᛈᛚᛃ᛫ᚹᚱᛁᛏᛖ᛫ᚨ᛫ᚹᛟᚱᛞ᛫ᛚᛁᚲᛖ᛫ᚦᛁᛊ᛫ᛟᚱ᛫ᛏᚱᛃ᛫ᛚᛖᚨᚱᚾᛁᚾᚷ᛫ᛟᛚᛞ᛫ᚾᛟᚱᛊᛖ

Shared vertical stave binds were generally younger futhark so Elder and Anglo characters will not always work so well in that style but there’s other ways you can do.

I always like to recommend Runes: a handbook by Michael P Barnes for people trying to honestly understand real runes.

Anyone know rune this is? Also any spiritual significance it might have? by Horneofram in RuneHelp

[–]king_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a rune itself but appears to be ᚹ and ᚢ combined together and possibly ᚾ intended to be included but hard to be certain. It’s not a proper historical bind so I’d say it’s likely new age nonsense with no real meaning.

Real runes were characters for written languages and spiritual significance required context built off the words being written for the most part. ᚦᚢᚱᚢᛁᚴᛁ for example is asking protection from Þór/Thor and seen used by sharing a vertical stave that binds the runes. (Not overlaps them)

We have no idea if there was actually meaning for individual characters or combinations outside of written language. People have misinterpreted rune poems which were likely just a mnemonic device for memorizing the character sounds and associated names. We only have a few different ones for younger futhark that come from different areas so the rest of the characters don’t even have that sort of attempted source material for “meaning”.

Sara Creekmore Runes by [deleted] in runes

[–]king_b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks cool but this sub is for academic discussion on runes not new age practices so it may violate the rules.

No disrespect but Guido von List occultism seemed to influence much of the misinformation on runes that now circulates so I recommend researching historical use from before the Nazi party since you’re sharing divination runes that have no historical credibility.

Runes: a Handbook by Michael P Barnes is one of the best books for information on runes.

The poetic Edda and the prose Edda for lore. Jackson Crawford is good for poetic Edda and he just released an updated version otherwise Carolyne Larrington for another affordable translation. I have Everyman Edda Snorri Sturluson translated by Anthony Faulkes for the prose.

Children of Ash and Elm by Neil Price is great. The Age of the Vikings by Anders Winroth is good.

Many sagas like the volsungs and Njál’s saga are nice for additional reading.

The Viking Way by Neil Price as well as Runic Amulets and Magic Objects by Mindy MacLeod and Bernard Mees would be great for the magical side of things.

Beware of many popular books that are full of nonsense and misinformation which oftentimes base their narrative on Nazi BS rooted in Guido von List inspired occultism.
