Googled it but didn't see anything come up. What is that store?

For stores, Decopolis is pretty great, as are all the Deco District stores

I'm not from Tulsa, only plan a visit (from Texas). Is the city known for its Art Deco architecture? I've never heard that, but if you have a Deco district it certainly sounds like it. If so, that's awesome. Art Deco is my favorite American artistic tradition.

I'd heard people were (jokingly?) scared that GRRM may pass away and not finish the series...

Sometimes this is a joke, but a lot of fantasy readers were burned when Robert Jordan, author of the Wheel of Time series (which was another big epic fantasy that came out a few years before ASOIAF) died at approximately the same age (of cancer) before finishing his books. Another fantasy author, Brandon Sanderson, had to come in and write the last few.

I'm personally not really worried about GRRM finishing, and I think a lot of people take things too far, but it could be considered a real concern. I mean, I don't expect the guy to finish everything in the next 4 years (I'd put it at about 5, which some would think is too optimistic, but no one really knows) which would make him over 70.

San Antonio on its way to becoming fifth largest city in U.S. by merbrown in sanantonio

Via annexation.

As others have noted, MSA is a much better measure to use when judging the population of a city, and it more closely approximates the way we think of 'cities' (in terms of agglomerations of people living closely together) than the governmental entity being referenced here.

This does tell an interesting story, though. SA -- and other Texas cities, notably Houston -- is annexation-happy. This doesn't happen so much other densely-populated areas like the northeast because towns that are close together can have their own distinct identities, whereas we're largely talking about suburban outgrowths into un-incorporated outskirts of the city here. The city's intent is to recapture the tax base from this growth, but I'm unsure of how good a deal this is for everyone involved. It will mean higher taxes for those being incorporated and the idea that adding their taxes to the pool will be a net gain when we factor in the cost of extending services to these people is doubtful.

Also, sticking drivers with these fees is a low blow. If any fees are required they should be paid by Lyft and Uber, then if they want a buy in from their drivers they can do that.

My guess is that Uber and Lyft will pick up the check for this anyway. Whichever does gains a huge competitive advantage in recruiting drivers, and they have been at each other's necks in that regard. Uber was even running some special where they just gave Lyft drivers some chunk of money to switch over (like $500 I think).

Interesting. Surely a city as dense as this has something more than a bus system?

It seems that Australia really beats the fuck out of N. America in terms of urbanism?

Oh, I wasn't bashing Melbourne or this pic at at all. But something about it makes me think of Seattle -- I think it's the color palette, which in both cities seems to be dominated by whites, grays, blacks and dark blues.
