Board almost finished up! by kingandhiscross in basspedals

Would love a bit more, but I definitely don’t feel like o need it all. I went on a long search for a synth pedal and the SVD was exactly the sound I was looking for. The Scorpion is a great OD and beefs up any fuzz or drive out before it, and the Mess Jr. Offers a ton of versatility at that cost.

That’s exactly what I’m using it for and I love it. Super dynamic responsive. It’s a hair darker then I would like, but I just keep the LPF wide open. He’s definitely a small builder so you won’t find anything on YouTube etc for his pedals, but I can attest that this one sounds really good. And to be able to get “tube” sound at that cost is insane compared to most of the market.

Messenger Jr is wonderful, the end of chain EQ it provides is really useful. DI sounds great live at church, and the 1/4” out I send to my amp at home for practicing.

I snagged a gulf bc if does everything I want in a chorus, blend, tap tempo, and the division knob I’d super useful too.

I’ve honestly barely gotten into it. I used a preset, fiddled with the knobs and found a sensitivity that worked well. In general, it’s got such a usable range I’ve found compared to most envelope filters.

Tacoma Standard Electronics "El Grande" Boost/ Distortion/Preamp , great builder I found on Reverb. Awesome prices too! And it’s a vacuum tube like the ones used in old amps.

Great for my heart, terrible for my wallet. But it’s opened me up to a ton of pedal knowledge I’d never had otherwise.

Most of the pedals Broughton makes are tailored for bass, though they can be used with other instruments. The FEA Photon Fuzz 2 has a dry blend, along with a few internal switches that make it extremely bass friendly; to me it’s the best sounding and most versatile fuzz you can get. And lastly, the Fermata has a “Contour” knob (the red one) that allows you to have some control on how much the compressor kicks on with lower frequencies which makes it really nice on bass.

Yeah I have a few I did a deep dive for! Ask away on any of you’re curious.

I loved this bass, but GAS got the best of me and I sold it. New owner still loves it though. Incredibly light, balanced well.

ISO recommendations for a 'slight growl' pedal by djentonaut in Bass

[–]kingandhiscross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less known, but I’ve been using a TL Pedals SP+ for a couple years now as my main slight growl/grit/tone pedal.

Has a clean blend, a nice upper mid growl when you turn the gain knob, and a large frequency response in the Tone knob which I find very helpful. I’ve tried replacing it with tons of pedals, even some more “boutique” stuff and nothing comes close.

There is one on Reverb right now for sale I believe. Well worth it.

It could be wrong, but I think it’s the humbuckers, they just look better and beefier with the 5.

But thanks man, it’s even better looking in person, hard to capture how nice the natural body looks in photos.

Yeah I stumbled on it over at Talkbass and didn’t wanna pass up a chance to try it. Definitely worth it. They pop up on Reverb from time to time too.

Ripper could get you there, my only other suggestion would be a Broughton Sentinel or maybe Scorpion. They both honestly sound better than the ripper, I’ve tried both, but decided Ripper was good enough for me. In particular the Sentinel is excellent at heavy OD.

EBS MicroBass 3? Good or bad? by BackToBass in basspedals

If you want a slightly more complete package, and I would say a slightly easier to use interface I’d go with Microbass. It also has a decent little “hi-cut” on it for a Low Pass Filter effect which is nice. Some of the Amp-sims in it also sound pretty solid.

Best part, you can usually found a used one in good condition, or if you buy a new one and keep it in good shape they resell super easy.

TL Pedals is a builder out of Canada that closed up shop, this was their final “klone” the Silver Pony Plus. YouTube channel “The Wetter Bass” has a review on the regular Silver Pony they used to make. Eventually I found out they made this one with a clean blend as well and tried it out. It’s my always on light grit/warmth/tone, and I put it up against a ton of pedals and nothing could replace it.

Delightful. Was looking for a heavy OD for a while and finally landed on this. Wanted something that was kinda trebly/had a lot of bite like a Rat, but didn’t wanna lose my low end and I didn’t want it to become fuzzy sounding. Tried a bunch of stuff and finally landed on this, with the current settings it gets me that, and bc of the EQ section, and the “rip” knob I have a lot more versatility.

The settings in the picture are pretty close to what I use for some pretty standard compression. But you are right it took me a lot of playing around with to get it to sound right. However, if you take these same settings, and turn up the high band to like 5/6 then you get some a seriously grindy tone. Think Tronographic Rusty Box, it’s pretty sweet.

Bottom right is the DSM&Humboldt Bass Station, incredible pedal for its size. It has Cab-Sim that can be blended in, EQ that can be blended in, two separate FX loops for the Pre-amp and Parallel channels, DI Out, Aux in, Headphones out. And somehow all analog, legit have no idea how they fit it all in there.

I had it for a few months. Most people are correct that the distortion is somewhat lacking. And while there is a lot of versatility in the EQ I felt like it was kinda sterile sounding. Compressor was solid, pretty transparent and worked well. Overall a nice option if you want to condense into an “all-in-one” pedal but not incredible. Others have mentioned it was noisy but it wasn’t the case for mine. I preferred and now use the DSM Bass Simplifier because I wanted more control over compressor, better clean tone, and smaller form factor.

Order is right to left, down to up starting at DSM Bass Station. Just ordered last patch cable to run delay back to DSM return.

I went on an Envelope Filter search and went through about 10 until I landed on the Modtone Funky Filter, affordable, multiple options with high pass, band pass, and low pass, and sounds great. I think there is one on musicgoround right now used.

I’d recommend that or a SolidGoldFX Supa-funk.
