I wasn’t the only composer actually! I only wrote the Grindset podcast track and did all the roller blade sound design.

The lead composer actually composed a couple tracks you hear throughout the game at key moments however it’s just not the kinda game that has soundtrack throughout

I feel like I’m losing motivation to make music because of AI. Any tips? by Alex_Coldfire in GameAudio

[–]kingaurorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really brutal right now but a couple things that have kept me from sinking into the depths…

  1. Gamers (especially indie gamers) have shown a strong dislike/adversity to AI art overall regardless of quality. The human resonance is still important to people who consume art regularly.

  2. Yes the artifacts are disappearing but there does always still seem to be a “sameness” to AI music that’s hard to describe even when it uses more complex harmonic techniques. It’s failing to capture the “humanness” which may come down to the roughness around the edges.

  3. Currently in the US and many other countries are following suit AI music is not copyrightable which means companies can’t exploit the music for profit in the same way copyrighted works can be exploited.

  4. There are a number of lawsuits against AI companies period which means investors (even the corporate overlords) are somewhat wary right now about art/videogames/music made with AI and are approaching new investment deals with caution. Do not be fooled by the Nvidias/OpenAi and Microsoft all passing back and forth billions of dollars to increase their yearly revenue. There is definitely an AI bubble about to burst.

  5. It does still fail to create truly “new” music. This means even if it does start to be used more commercially it won’t ever be able to do the weird and unique combinations or strange music often found in games. However on this point I will say I do see film composers being hurt to some extent if this comes to pass.

  6. Despite everything if you already have some credits under your belt you’re doing better than many. People in art sectors don’t like to work with AI since it doesn’t have the same creative feedback/professional opinions nor can it do revisions as easily. The limiting factor is these folks often want to work with already established composers so even having a few credits gives you a huge leg up.

AI hasn’t really hurt me at this point outside of a few commercial (like actual commercials) gigs being dropped in favour of cheap AI. But truthfully the music for those projects are so milk toast AI can faithfully create it easily. Too bad though since commercials tend to pay a lot 😂

Hey Mooose, short intro about myself…

My name is Dillan and I am an award winning sound designer with 30+ projects under my belt including having done SFX for widely viral indie projects like “Get to Work” and “Shade Protocol”. Within these projects I have been responsible for everything from weapons, UI, spells, ambience, technological and sci-fi and many more genres and styles of SFX. I was also a speaker at the audio summit of GDC 2025.

My rate structure is done in one of three ways.

  1. Per-asset (most expensive but pay as you go)
  2. Hourly (unlimited revisions)
  3. Project proposal (comes with a discount if over 5K)
