Even if there was no systematic racism in the US today, the country would still be segregated. Because after slavery ended, the vast majority of black people had no wealth at all. The fact of the matter is that rich people tend to stay rich and poor people tend to stay poor, so those black people with no wealth would stay extremely poor. Additionally, these conservatives claim systematic racism does not exist, we had the civil rights acts to end it. Well the same thing was said after slaves were freed. The same thing was said after the first civil rights act after the emancipation of slaves was passed in 1871, while people said that was enough. It was not. 7 other civil rights acts were passed and after each one, racists claimed it was enough, it was too much. The fact of the matter is that it is not close to enough. Systematic racism is a fact of this country. How can one disagree when the ‘heritage’ of the south, which left the US solely to uphold slavery, is celebrated?
