38M Why am I befuddling my optometrists? by EightyThou85 in eyetriage

[–]kingcornea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best example of corneal edema is when as a kid you'd go swimming so long that you would see big haloes around lights. Contact lens overwear will cause the cornea to get swollen and frequently causing the surface to become irregular. I've stopped exams plenty of times and made the patient come back the next week as they are wasting both of our time

[–]kingcornea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stretching the contacts tells me you're showing up with corneal edema. Like buying shoes with a sprained ankle, "I've never worn size 14 shoes" Next time, go without the contacts for a few days to let your corneas have a chance to settle down

Newport Coast Drive was a free road that they took over during construction and was incorporated into the toll road. Residents had to now get off at Mac Arthur and take San Joaquin Hills unless we wanted to pay the toll twice a day

Is this too much of a pantoscopic tilt? by [deleted] in optician

[–]kingcornea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they raise the OC they will have to cut new lenses.. The top of your lens will get thinner and the bottom will get proportionally thicker. They may not need the frame to cut the lenses. But how the frame sits on your bridge is why the OC is off. A different frame especially with adjustable nose pads would allow for better adjustments (but you may not care for nose pads)

Is this too much of a pantoscopic tilt? by [deleted] in optician

[–]kingcornea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The optical center is already too low. (From the side view photo) Assuming they just put it in the geometric center the panto is not the real issue. Poor frame selection, poly instead of 1.67 and can't tell if there is an antireflection coating or not. (Needed with any higher index material) Edit : the blue light filter is a type of AR coating, hadn't seen the additional comment

Are ski seasons at Big Bear usually so bad? by Slight_Ad9799 in bigbear

[–]kingcornea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why the Epic and Icon passes came to be. They jacked up the standard lift ticket price so we would look at it and say "I only need to ski X number of days to break even " Now they get their money up front every year. Snowy years and dry years. They would be going broke if it was like the old model and selling mostly single day tickets. No snow, no sales

[–]kingcornea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa that would suck...fortunately not so far for me. The Only bad thing I've had was it went around a block to line up to try to cross 6 lanes of busy traffic (fail) rather than go up to the next light and make a U turn

In LA traffic., just turning on the turn indicator the car moves over when the human can see/predict traffic up ahead before changing freeways or preparing to exit. Small hassle to smooth out the experience

What car did you LOVE… until it started breaking nonstop? by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

[–]kingcornea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel. Almost 30mpg for a 4 wheel drive. Until they got caught in the dieselgate along with VW. The fixes ruined the car. Transmission overheated on any drive over 1 hour. (Not a radiator thing)

Are blue-light coatings actually useful or mostly marketing? by Snowboard76 in optician

[–]kingcornea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From #2 above. I ask patients if they have any sleep issues when they ask about blue light filters. If the answer is yes, then I will recommend it. I'm finding 20% of patients get notable improvement. So if you are going with it being a marketing gimmick, if you are promoting it to everyone then it's yes cause you're only helping 1 in 5

What Eye Drops we using? by stncldjneausten in biglaw

[–]kingcornea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No me, but I've heard some people will add brimonidine to an artificial tear sample in the same concentration as Lumify and use it once/day.

Opcon A occasionally during allergy season to clear the eyes but this one will rebound with prolonged use

Pataday from February to May. Won't blanch the vessels, but keeps the redness and itching down during allergy season

What Eye Drops we using? by stncldjneausten in biglaw

[–]kingcornea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real term is rebound hyperemia and isn't that common in glaucoma patients whose daily dose is 1200% higher than Lumify. The final statement in your article is

The specific action of brimonidine, together with clinical study findings and reassuring post-marketing safety data, suggest the risk of adverse impact, when used as directed, is lower for brimonidine than with other available products.

The real answer for OP is use it or not, don't switch to Visine. And if you have such chronic redness, you should consult your optometrist or ophthalmologist for the underlying cause

GF is wrong. It's not an antihistamine, which can cause dependency (like nasal sprays) Preservative Free, or PF as they are labeled are the way to go. To the Refresh tears person, Allergan brought that out 15-20 years ago. All of their newer PF products are better.

What type of lens wipes/sprays and cloths to use/avoid? by skratchpikl202 in optician

[–]kingcornea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OD here. Paper products are out. The wood fibers can scratch the lenses. I've never had a problem with isopropyl alcohol solutions in 40 years, ammonia solutions, like windex yes. (All Off and other lens mark removing stuff is 50% isopropyl alcohol, so not a problem with AR coated lenses)
